“This was the first time staying at Trewin and we really enjoyed ourselves.”

The location was peaceful, off of a private road, yet within easy walking distance from the local shops. The garden was well kept with a large outdoor patio which became a sun trap later in the afternoon. During the stay, we watched plenty of birds, rabbits, a stoat and even a ferret on the lawn. The house provided a good social area with the open plan kitchen, dining and lounge. There was plenty of hot water for all six of us after returning from the beach and the water pressure in the shower was great. The double fridge was excellent and, alongside the separate under-counter freezer, provided enough space for a large shop for the week. There was plenty of cutlery and crockery including pint glasses and large mugs for tea and coffee. I would suggest that more details and photos regarding the fridge and freezer be added to the website as the sizes are not clear. We rang John Bray before we arrived to check whether there would be enough space for a week’s shopping, so that a home delivery shop could be accommodated and food would not be wasted. Additionally, there are hairdryers in the rooms, and 2 tea-towels provided, but this is not stated on the website so we had brought our own, unnecessarily. There was no welcome pack (providing at least a pint of milk would be much appreciated) or instructions for the bin collection (half full on our arrival) or what to do with the bed linen on our departure. This would be useful. I had to ring John Bray to get the bins emptied during our stay. The addition of a clothes airer would be appropriate for items which cannot be tumble-dried, during rainy stays. A washing line on the lawn would also provide more space for drying, in the afternoon sunshine. The kitchen knives need sharpening and some mattress protectors need replacing: they have been washed at too high a temperature and the filling has melted into lumps which are very uncomfortable to sleep on. After two nights of difficult sleep (feeling like I was sleeping on little pebbles), I removed the two sets from the bed so I could sleep comfortably for the rest of the stay. A lighter weight king size duvet is needed when the weather is hot and some softer pillows are also required as most of us found them far too hard. I slept on a cushion (not ideal). Lights over the bathroom mirrors would useful and at least one full-size mirror somewhere in the house. Putting in a shower screen or curtain in the family bathroom would allow for an extra stand-up shower, which would be very useful when six people need to shower after being in the sea. More placemats would help to prevent any marks on the dining room table. Notes for the cleaner would be to ensure the towels smell fresh, ours didn’t - they seemed to have been washed without detergent - and check all the small bins are emptied. The one in the main bedroom had a large amount of hair from a hairbrush and medication packaging from a previous guest (including his full name and address) when we arrived. Additionally, the bottom drawer of the freezer had broken glass from a bottle frozen into it alongside half empty ice cream tubs. We had a lovely stay and would visit again, but we felt it important to identify the areas for improvement from the point of view of a guest.
