“Had a fantastic stay at Varley View cottage.”

Morning views are lovely! Cleanliness and facility’s were second to none. Perfect base. We enjoyed great local pub food, coastal walks and only 5min stroll to port Gaverne beach! John Bray made us feel totally relaxed and welcome in lovely Port Isaac. We’ll be back again this summer. Marie.

The property

Oozing charm and elegance, Varley View is an ideal holiday home in a great, convenient location in the quaint seaside fishing village of Port Isaac. Featuring superb style throughout the whole house, this three-bedroom self-catering holiday home is perfect for families or a couple of couples! Situated at the top of the village, it is within walking distance of the picturesque harbour and delightful, local boutique shops. Step inside and immediately feel at ease as the original Victorian style tiled flooring greets you and leads to the beautifully designed living room with its high ceilings, appealing artwork and feature (purely) decorative fireplace which highlights the handsome character of the room. The large front bay window lets the sunshine stream into this room during the daytime, while the comfy sofa and inviting armchair will encourage you to snuggle up in the evenings and to get the family together to switch off technology and play games. Following down the entrance hallway to the kitchen, the warm and characterful touches continue as the traditional slate flooring is teamed with stylish decoration in-keeping with the house with features including an original built in ornamental AGA. For easy holiday living, modern facilities have been added to ensure you can conveniently whip up your meals on an electric cooker and if you absolutely need to do so while on holiday(!) an up to date washer/dryer is a useful facility when bringing children. Throw open the double doors from the kitchen and step out to the large patio garden where you sit out and relax at the table and chairs, relishing in the sun trap that is created by the fencing either side and meaning you have just the right amount of fresh air without being blown away from the Cornish gusts of wind! Little ones will appreciate this area to let off steam on the outside flagstones and take their toys outside without the challenge of being covered in grass and soil by the time they are finished! When finally worn out, beautifully decorated upstairs bedrooms await you at the end of the day. The master bedroom features a huge window which presents the stunning view across the rooftops out to sea; sit in bed with your morning cup of coffee and get lost in the amazing vista. A further light, bright bedroom at the front of the house has a double sized bed and continues the sophisticated, nautical touches in decoration. Children will love their own bedroom next to this with bunk beds and smart, modern decor to make it special for them to remember their sea side holiday by. There are two bathrooms to choose from; one upstairs shower room and downstairs at the back of the house, there is also a family bathroom with a shower over the bath. There is one private parking space outside the house that will take up to roughly an estate sized car when parallel parked. With all the wonders of Port Isaac on your doorstep you can leave the car at Varley View and walk straight down through the traditional lanes to the harbour. Watch with an ice cream as the fishing boats chug in and out or step back into your own childhood and skim stones from the beach into the glistening water. When lunchtime comes, you are surrounded by tempting wares with Nathan Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen opposite the harbour and New Road restaurant at the top of town. At the top of the slipway is the Mote pub with the Golden Lion pub and Slipway restaurant also around the corner to tempt you. When venturing out of the village, just down the road is the inlet of Port Gaverne and on from there, Port Quin which is a quaint little bay where you can snorkel, kayak or paddleboard from at high tide. At low tide, little ones can take their time exploring and learning about all the interesting marine life in the rock pools. Port Isaac is a mere 6 miles from the surfing waves of Polzeath beach and the clifftop of Pentire Point and the Rumps. Around the coastal path from there at Rock, why not book onto an exhilarating boat trip with the local Wavehunters to see the coastline in more detail and try to spot seals and puffins at the nearby Moules island; you may even be lucky and spot dolphins playing too! While Port Isaac itself is likely to keep you busy with its individual shops, walks from the village and unique treats in the summer such as live performances from the famous Fishermen’s Friends (truly, not to be missed), there is an abundance of activities within a very short drive to keep adults and children delighted. From a gentle clifftop stroll on the South West Coastal Path to a full day of sailing, surfing and messing about on the water of the Camel Estuary, there are plenty of adventures to be had when staying at Varley View.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

Polzeath 6 miles; Padstow 9 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. There is ample parking at the top of the village.

Please note, the one parking space on the driveway is for parallel parking outside the house. This is a limited size but can fit a hatchback in, or at a squeeze, an estate sized car as a maximum size.
