“We loved our holiday in Port Isaac, Cobweb is in a great location and charming but the cottage needs TLC.”

..!! The whole cottage needs a good clean, dirty cups in the cupboard, water bottles and dust under the bed. The most uncomfortable double bed, I had to sleep in the single bed. Shower needs attention, very weak output. Fridge/Freezer needs defrosting. And finally, the saga with the dripping kitchen tap!! Appreciate the cottage is up for sale but as paying guest standards need to be maintained.

The property

The Cobweb is a truly delightful 18th century traditional Cornish fisherman's cottage in Middle Street, in the heart of Port Isaac's picturesque little harbour village. A lovely romantic getaway for a couple perhaps looking for a foodie break in this restaurant-rich area, or for energetic ramblers keen to explore the stunning coastal paths out of both sides of the village. Step out the door down the winding lanes of Port Isaac and listen to the seagulls and the sounds of the harbour. The cottage has a galley-style kitchen and a separate charming sitting/dining room where a welcoming open fire can warm up a blustery day. Cook up a storm for your loved ones after a day of exploring, utilising all the kitchen's appliances including an electric oven and hob, before settling down in front of the fire to relax for the evening with a film on TV or a good book. Attractive traditional slate flooring and exposed beams create a snug, hospitable retreat and upstairs there is a double bedroom and single bedroom where you can rest your head at the end of your adventurous day, along with a sleek fitted bathroom for freshening up in. Outside, you can enjoy your morning coffee at the front of the cottage, where a charming bench awaits you. Walk out for an evening of fine dining or even for some fish and chips and catch the now famous Fisherman's Friends entertaining the crowds singing their sea shanties on the Platt, most Friday evenings in the summer months. Any time of year you can rest on the harbour slipway and watch the fishing boats potter in and out of the harbour with their daily catch, perhaps skimming a couple of stones into the water. The surrounding coastal paths are dramatic and rugged as they travel up and down the coves and headlands, sightings of rare birdlife and even the occasional glimpse of a seal or pod of dolphins is not uncommon. The nearby cove of Port Gaverne will take you through the village and down the hill on the other side to this unspoilt, sheltered spot. Take your time exploring the fascinating rock pools and have a go at snorkelling out alongside the cliffs or simply enjoy a swim in the refreshing waters. Just a few miles away you will also find the surfing paradise of Pozeath beach, the sailing and watersports mecca of Rock with its day ferry across to Padstow harbour and the Camel Trail, a flat cycle and walking route that links to Wadebridge and Bodmin. Cobweb is a memorable cottage for a romantic break, perfect any time of year.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

PORT ISAAC

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.

Please note, no children under 12 years are permitted. The stairs features a partially open side up to roughly halfway, although there is a handrail. Due to the nature of fishermen's cottages, some flooring areas may be bumpy, please take care.
