“We were very disappointed in Silvershell House.”

We are regular customers of Sykes and this property fell below their normal standards. While it has all the facilities described, the quality is very poor. It reminded me of what it used to be like in a second rate holiday camp. Everything very tired and in serious need of a makeover. The furniture is poor quality and many holes in the floorboards need to be filled. Chipped, stained or scratched crockery. Loads of mismatching eating utensils. Thin mattresses and poor quality linen on hard ...

We are regular customers of Sykes and this property fell below their normal standards. While it has all the facilities described, the quality is very poor. It reminded me of what it used to be like in a second rate holiday camp. Everything very tired and in serious need of a makeover. The furniture is poor quality and many holes in the floorboards need to be filled. Chipped, stained or scratched crockery. Loads of mismatching eating utensils. Thin mattresses and poor quality linen on hard wooden beds made for uncomfortable sleeping. Most nights there was a howling in the roof, even though there was only a light breeze. The steps up to the outside seating area need to be fixed and ideally a rail provided. A relatively small investment by the owner would make a big difference. Shame on Sykes for not requiring him/her to do that. It damages the their brand and my hitherto loyalty to them.

“We have stayed at Silvershell several times and whilst in general it is a comfortable house, the mattresses in the king size and double rooms are awful.”

The house also needs more sockets in the bedrooms and lounge and the extension leads are too short. The shower in the double room is poorly positioned and in the main bathroom needs replacing. Some of the crockery now needs replacing (several chipped and cracked mugs on arrival!) We noticed the cleaning was not up to the usual standard. Some of this may sound trivial and I know staffing etc is difficult at the moment but in light of your huge price increases, standards need to be maintained. We do like this property and it’s very convenient. We enjoyed our holiday.

“The bungalow didn’t seem to have been cleaned.”

Although beds had been changed and the towels were clean, the table had crumbs on, fridge door was very dirty, floors and sinks had lots of hairs on. We had to clean before unpacking. Wouldn’t use Sykes again due to this as it happened when we stayed with them in the Lake District. Mattress in double room was extremely hard and uncomfortable.

“The location of the property is good.”

The kitchen is good and well equipped and clean. The living area is good. The bedrooms were only ok. The bed was very uncomfortable as were the pillows, they need to be renewed. The bed could do with a mattress topper. It was so uncomfortable we came home a day early, we couldn’t face a further uncomfortable night. The shower in the middle bathroom was angled to the wall, this needs to be straightened. The sink in this bathroom is tiny. Goodness knows why, there is plenty of room for a bigger sink. We wouldn’t stay in this property again. We were disappointed as we expected more from John Bray.
