The property

Please note: The property is a traditional Cornish cottage and like many has low beams which is part of the character but one to consider if you are a tall family. Just up the road from the beautiful village of Port Isaac lies the delightful little hamlet of Lower Trefreock where Swallow Cottage is waiting to welcome you. Set in a no-through road with fields at the back and to the side, Swallow Cottage is an idyllic pet-friendly holiday home with all the charm and character that comes with what was once a coastal farmer's cottage. With its own two parking space outside this self-catering cottage and fabulous garden at the rear, this unique home is a real gem combining all the peace of the country with still being within walking distance of Port Isaac's harbour. A warm welcome awaits your as you walk inside and drop off all your bags in the flag-stoned porch and enter the enchanting galley kitchen, with original wooden beams adding to the magical cottage feel. Slip off your shoes, put the kettle on and enjoy the owner's kind welcome goodies to revitalise yourself after your journey. Look forward to rustling up delicious meals in the well-equipped and conveniently laid out kitchen, with dining table for four so you can savour family mealtimes together. Just around the corner from the kitchen is the quaint living room, showcasing the traditional stone fireplace with slate hearth as a fantastic feature here. Sure, to keep you and your four-legged friend toasty on the chillier evenings, you can light the open fire and sit back in the plush sofas. From the living area you can see out into the wonderful back garden and watch the cows pottering in the meadow beyond. Step down from the main living area down to the dining room with a farm house table and chairs, perfect for dinners together or perhaps enjoying an afternoon with a jigsaw or puzzle with the little ones. Climb the stairs up to the first floor, where you will find two well-appointed bedrooms, a king-size offering glorious views out across the gardens to the field beyond, and a twin with truckle which is flooded with natural light with its prime position at the front of the cottage, both perfect for catching your rest in. With uneven, thick stone walls and charming features, the character of the cottage is still retained upstairs but perfectly complimented by the contemporary additions of new beds and mattresses. Just off the landing on the other side is the family bathroom: a very generous bathroom with double aspect windows, an inviting bath and separate shower for the ultimate convenience when coming back from the beach and bathing little ones. Outside, the garden combines a lawn area with mature flower beds and wooden fencing to the rear. This is an idyllic spot to sit and relax, why not bring back your Cornish cream tea back to enjoy as a picnic here or fire up the barbecue for an evening of alfresco dining? Children and your canine companion will love having the space to run around while adults can keep an eye on them from a more laid-back position at the outside table and chairs! While the cottage is technically semi-detached, it feels very private here and as if you are in your own little bubble at Swallow Cottage as the tranquil hamlet of Lower Trefeock creates a peaceful setting. This location brings all the advantages of being right by the coast while still being able to retreat to your own hideaway at the end of the day. Trot into the village to take in the delights of the harbour and individual shops. There are lovely cafes to take your morning coffee and cake in, such as Chapel Café; on Roscarrek Hill or The Krab Pot right by the harbour and for a heartier meal, two pubs, The Slipway Restaurants or take your pick of Nathan Outlaw's two fantastic restaurants. As you walk around you are sure to spot the famous sights and house fronts of the TV series of Doc Martin and the film Fishermen's Friends. Indeed, in the summer months they can still be seen singing in the harbour some evenings. The delightful lanes wriggle around Port Isaac and are fabulous for a saunter through any time of day, perhaps picking up the South West Coastal Path from either side of the village to see the stunning sea views from the clifftops. To the north of the neighbouring Port Gaverne inlet lies the beautiful Trebarwith Strand where the sandy expanse can be enjoyed at low tide and further along, the historic village of Tintagel where you can immerse yourself in the myths and legends of Kind Arthur at the remains of the Castle. Heading south from Port Isaac, the coastline is no less dramatic as you can take in the views from the smaller bay of Epphaven and Lundy Bay, with the Rumps headland worth trekking out to. Larger beaches lie just south of here at Polzeath, where the rolling waves will be no doubt tempt you to hire a surfboard and try them out and around the corner, the gentler shores of Daymer Bay and Rock. If taking the car out for the day, be sure to stop in at Trevathen Farm at St. Endellion on your way back, just a short drive from Swallow Cottage where you can stock up on all your delicious Cornish goodies for the week and to importantly, supplies to take home! Treat your loved ones and your four-legged friend to an unforgettable stay at the pet-friendly base of Swallow Cottage. Please Note: There is an extra truckle bed in Bedroom 2 that can be made up upon request. Please give at least 7 days notice prior to your booking, while it does make this bedroom cosy for space, it can still suit children.
