  • “Lovely bungalow in a good location - would have given it 5 stars but a large pile of spare bedding/quilts and large vacuum cleaner were stored in the big wardrobe in main bedroom leaving hardly any space - not great as had to try and find a home for them so we could use the wardrobe for its intended purpose.”

So a little short on storage space for linen and cleaning equipment but otherwise bright and cheerful with some great pictures everywhere on walls to look at.

The property

Instantly relax in this ever so comfortable, charming and homely three bedroom holiday home in the heart of Rock. In a fantastic location, Trearden is within walking distance to not only Porthilly Bay and then around to Rock beach at low tide but also to the facilities of the village such as the bakery, butchers and village stores. Inside, the wrap around kitchen to dining and lounge area creates a welcome flow in the social areas, with the large picture windows to the front letting the light stream in. The modern kitchen itself is very well equipped with quality facilities for the chef of the group, which will make whipping up your family spreads a doddle, if you choose to eat in. Otherwise, the restaurants at the end Rock and tempting Mariners Pub lie down the hill, towards the water. For sitting together at the end of the day, the living area provides sink-into sofas and for chilly evenings, the comfort an electric fire to keep your toes extra toasty! The soft pastel décor throughout is uplifting and attractive, creating a comforting feel which means you can switch off from modern life and your thoughts can drift away with the ebbing tide into your own idyllic Cornish holiday dreamworld. There are two lovely bedrooms at the back of the house and a further single to the side, giving everyone plenty of space to relax in private, away from the main living areas, if they wish. The ground floor facilities and bedrooms are certain to suit multigenerational families, with the sheltered outside patio at this level too, before the steps lead up to the grassy lawn. Trearden boasts a beautiful, enclosed back garden which children will love to dash around in and where adults can sprawl out in the suntrap created by the high hedges either side. There is an enchanting summer house which makes an inviting spot to curl up with a holiday read and glass of Cornish wine in the afternoon (if the children haven’t claimed it for their very own den by then!) From the elevated lawn, you can catch a glimpse of the shimmering water of the estuary to tempt you out of your peaceful solitude and down to the shoreline. Wander down to Porthilly via the footpath nearby at day break to stretch your legs and see the deliciously calm estuary glistening in the early morning light, before the rest of the world wakes up. For any runners or keen walkers, there are a few stunning round routes you can take from the house, with one taking you through the famous St. Enodoc golf course to Brea bay, around in the dunes and back via the beach, up the hill to Trearden. You will be sure to work up an appetite for a full English breakfast with Cornish produce from just up the road in the village after that! With the golf course so close to the house, keen enthusiasts can pack their clubs and enjoy the break-taking views from the famous coastal course. For more aquatically minded guests, Rock Sailing School offers the chance to learn to sail or return to the water in the Camel Estuary while Camel Ski School is perfect for water-skiing adrenaline-seekers and more laid back paddleboarders alike. To truly appreciate the marine life on the coastline, why not book a Sealife Safari which takes you around the tiny bays of the estuary; you may even be lucky enough to spot dolphins playing in the water!
