The property

Just off Daymer Lane and only a short walk from Daymer Bay beach, this beautiful and sophisticated country house benefits from being in one of the most desirable spots on the North Cornwall coast. Torquil stands in extensive enclosed grounds, which are perfect for a family getaway or a group holiday. Sensitively renovated with a contemporary yet classic feel, the house retains many of its original features such as bedroom fireplaces, clawfoot baths and vintage furniture. Staying at Torquil is a unique experience and a reminder of days gone by. Visited by the late John Betjeman in his youth, Torquil is referred to in his poetry as ‘that more than summer residence’ and this is still true today. The large, sunny kitchen overlooking the garden, elegant drawing room with cosy log fire and beautifully appointed accommodation, make this a house to be enjoyed all year round. Torquil is a short walk to Daymer Bay with its gently shelving sandy beach perfect for children as well as hidden swimming spots around the cliffs for an evening dip. Alternatively, head out across the fairways of St Enodoc golf club to the pretty St. Enodoc Church or hikes up Brae Hill. Coastal paths are a stone's throw from the house, taking you towards Rock and the Camel Estuary in one direction, the Greenaway and the popular surfing beach Polzeath in the other. There are numerous places to eat close to hand, ranging from beach cafes, quintessential country pubs, to Michelin Star restaurants. The property also benefits from a private gymnasium, sauna and jacuzzi, available on separate request. Torquil shares a drive with Little Torquil, located directly behind. Daymer Bay and the village of Trebetherick were both loved by Sir John Betjeman and are unquestionably special. With a huge appeal to both the young and not so young, Daymer Bay has recently been voted one of the best beaches in the world! St. Enodoc Church, once buried in the sand, is within comfortable walking distance of Daymer Bay and is the resting place of Sir John Betjeman. Daymer Bay holds great appeal for wind surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders, with the gentle waves rolling up the estuary. There is enormous fun too for small children with buckets and spades and fishing in the rock pools. At low tide you can walk across the sand to the village of Rock to indulge in a spot of retail therapy or a bite to eat at one of the many delicious eateries, or catch the short ferry ride and explore the delights of Padstow. Up from the coast path as it runs from Daymer Bay is Highcliffe, nestling between Polzeath and Trebetherick, both of which boast a number of pubs, restaurants and village stores all offering a wide variety of fresh quality produce. The properties at Highcliffe have the advantage of being within easy reach of Daymer, Polzeath and Greenaway - Greenaway being the name given to the clifftop area, beach and small cove with rock pools overlooking the Atlantic beyond that lies between Daymer and Polzeath.
