    “The location of Ebrel is perfect and parking for two cars most unusual for Port Isaac, but the 5* rating stops there.”

    The floor was clean but plenty of insects around coving (this is not an old property so a simple hoover in corners would suffice); 3 of the 4 spotlights in the kitchen didn’t work and although Bray replaced them within 24 hours the maintenance should have spotted this on handover clean); we had to ask for a 4th bowl as only 3 supplied; other than 2cm of washing up liquid, hand wash in bathroom and 1 toilet roll there were few materials provided other than teabags/coffee (5* would indicate ...

Bray kindly provided 2 dishwasher tablets but there was no dishwasher. There is also an issue with the plumbing; perhaps an airlock but every time someone used the bathroom there was a loud noise in the plumbing. Adding to this noise was the domestic noise from the adjoining property; the walls are paper thin and their kitchen was the other side of one of the bedrooms; they started usung the kitchen at 5:30am most weekdays and let their barking dog out into their garden at that time too. This is simply not a 5* property - other than its location. Compare it to Tremay in Rock, for instance, and comparably we would rate Ebrel a 3*. Your comments on your basis for 5* rating would be appreciated.

The property

Ebrel is a delightful two bedroom bungalow situated in the beautiful harbour village of Port Isaac in North Cornwall, famous for the hit TV series Doc Martin. This self catering retreat can cater for up to four people and comprises a double bedroom and a zip and link bedroom creating that flexibility of a twin bedroom or a king size option. Ebrel also welcomes one pet by arrangement. The property benefits from having 2 car spaces at the front and a lovely garden to the rear to allow you to relax with an evening tipple after a long day exploring the rugged coastline. Perfectly positioned between the old village of Port Isaac and the picturesque Port Gaverne both within a few minutes walk from your doorstep. The compact galley kitchen is a slick modern space with everything you need to cook up a quick seafood supper or even whip up a batch of scones for a Cornish cream tea. The main bedroom is very attractively furnished with calm tones combined with natural wood doors. The second bedroom is a zip and link bed offering a twin bedroom as standard, a king size bed can be set up on request. Ebrel is a perfect base for your Cornish holiday, it is a short walk to the harbour where there is a traditional pub, the Golden Lion, and an array of places to eat including Nathan Outlaw's restaurant at the top of the village or Outlaw's Fish Kitchen found opposite the harbour. Pop down to the platt on a Friday evening in the summer to hear the Fisherman's Friends sing. Ebrel is situated close to Port Gaverne Hotel with the 'Best Pub in the South West'. It is ideally located close to Polzeath one of the best surfing beaches in the UK. The magic of Tintagel is on your doorstep and an abundance of watersports is on offer at nearby Rock. If golf is your passion then pop along to The Point at Polzeath for a round of golf, drinks and food. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. There is ample parking at the top of the village.
