Hazelhurst

Havng stayed n Hazlehurst many tmes tgether and with family too.

We were once again very satisfied. The new sofas and carpet are great.

We have stayed at Hazelhurst several times before (booked either by friends or ourselves).

This is a lovely home with everything you need for a stay as a family or group of friends. It even has 3 cafetiere's, and an extra freezer in the garage, where the tumble dryer is. Garden is comparatively sheltered too. Quilts, bed covers and pillows provided but you need to take your own quilt cover/pillow slips, bottom sheets and towels for the bathroom and downstairs toilet and kitchen, plus personal towels, which is clearly mentioned. We liked the comfy new lounge furniture and although we hardly used it this time, the new TV too. Nice pictures and personal effects. Parking is good for two cars plus some space on the road for a third. Take time to read the house information. Quiet location and really convenient to access the local shops, restaurants, beaches, gardens, museums, art places etc. including the ferry to Padstow, and to explore more of Cornwall too. We were lucky to catch the only weekend that The Tregothnan Private Gardens are open each year (well organised charity fundraiser) and also have the history of their tea growing crop explained to us by a helpful volunteer. We even bumped into Paul Ainsworth near his No 6 restaurant in Padstow, after eating at one of his other places, The Mariners in Rock, earlier in the week. Cream teas and/or pasty's are obligatory - but missed out on crab sandwiches. The weather forecast was originally not at all good but we had a brilliant week of sunshine, with high winds at times. Unfortunately, some very small but noticeable accidental damage was caused to the good quality table covering (oil) on the first night. Although it was not new, we knew we had to report it at the first opportunity to John Bray's in Rock (Ollie has only recently joined them but was pleasant and helpful in all my contacts with him - thank you). We also asked for our apologies to be conveyed to the owner. We are sorry that this damage was caused at all. We would have replaced it during our stay to minimise the inconvenience, but understandably the owner wanted to choose their own, and we have now paid for that replacement. Thank you for making this easy for us - and apologies again for the damage and inconvenience. Thank you too for sharing this home for the use and enjoyment of others.

Another lovely stay at Hazelhurst.

Relaxing and homely as always. Well equipped.Thankyou for another great stay. We had a small issue of a leak under the sink one evening which was reported and dealt with promptly. Some lovely walks to Polzeath over the golf course and down into Rock. Where you can get the Black Tor Ferry to Padstow. Leave the car behind. Visited Lanhydrock beautiful autumnal vistas. Fabulous grounds and house.

A regular cottage for us & just press the app rebook button, so did not notice that towels & bedlinen are no longer provided, we got caught out.

The lounge furniture is a little uncomfortable. Shower was great, beds cosy, clean & great location for walking to Polzeath, Daymer and Rock.

The house stunk of cooking smells, I took my shoes off as we entered the property as we always do, and my socks were sticking to the floor.

We ended up mopping the entire downstairs floor area- it was absolutely filthy. We thought we had managed to get rid of the smells but the whole house needs a good deep clean and painting. We ended up cleaning the whole of the kitchen surfaces, we also cleaned the kitchen sink which was full of tea stains. Th oven needs a deep clean to get rid of other peoples cooking smells. The property looked so much cleaner after we’d stayed there. We are not impressed with the lounge furniture- it’s dirty and uncomfortable. The tables in the lounge were also very dirty. There was black mould around the bathroom sink tap. Sykes Cottages sent me a link to ask how our first night had gone? I sent a reply back telling them about having to mop the floors etc - guess what they never got back to me. The only saving grace is the new shower. And the comfortable king bed plus the fact that we took all of our own bedding and felt so much better sleeping on the bed with our own mattress protector over the top of the one that was provided. Would I book here again? Definitely not. Disgraceful to let the property unclean. We have never stayed in a dirty property like this before. Al

We had a lovely week at Hazelhurst and would return.

We had a rather stressful start as we found our bedding & towels had not arrived, just a bag of dirty washing left. After a couple of hours this was sorted by Paul at John Bray, who was great. But it was a stress after an 8 hour journey. It would have been lovely to have had a small welcome pack left, we couldn't get any milk nearby for a cuppa as it was Sunday evening. Just a suggestion to leave milk & biscuits sure would be much appreciated. We found the house warm and comfortable. The lounge sofa & chairs are tired and would benefit from replacing. The weather was kind, the area great and the owners handbook very useful. We would happily stay again, thank you.

Overall we had a lovely stay at Hazelhurst.

The cottage was well equipped and in a good location. The bedding was of good quality but it was a shame that duvet covers and towels were not provided as we are used to that on every other property we have booked. On arrival there was quite a strong cooking smell and also quite musty especially in the downstairs loo. The kitchen surfaces and sink were not as clean as I would have liked and I ended up cleaning it. The sink desperately needs a new plug as the current one is stained and looks very old. Some of the items in the cupboards were dirty as was the kettle. As it is see through you could see that the base is very discoloured. The shower upstairs was excellent and looked quite new. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of hanging space. As mentioned in previous reviews the lounge is looking a bit tired and the sofas were not comfortable. It would benefit from some larger cosier sofas and new furniture. The TV is also quite small for the size of the room. The outside space was lovely and very well presented and there was ample parking space. The property was lovely and quiet and the heating was great. We would visit again but wanted to point out some of these areas to provide constructive criticism for the owner/letting company.

Excellent overall.

The only black marks would be the chairs and sofas in the sitting room. These are quite low and not at all supportive or comfortable - ideally they would be refurbished or replaced. Also the kitchen has an induction hob but although well stocked with various pots and pans we could only find a couple which were compatible with the new hob. So maybe add one or two news pans and donate the rest? As I said we found Hazelhurst overall to be an excellent base for our holiday and none of the points above was serious enough to spoil our enjoyment.

Lovely property, very well equipped and everything you could ask for in the kitchen.

A great location for exploring the area on a quiet estate. Two suggestions would be; changing the shower as it has a very low pressure flow to the point of a trickle sometimes and upgrading the lounge seating, as sofas were dated and uncomfortable. These didn't affect our stay however, and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday

We had a lovely wk at the cottage.

Lovely area nice and quiet. House was clean and well maintained. Only thing that let’s it’s down was the shower and the sofas was uncomfortable.

I always love staying at Hazelhurst.

This is my 5-6 visit. I contacted John Bray Cornish holidays to mention that the shower was very poor. They came back to me and said they would send an engineer out. They then told me the engineer had visited and the shower is was no different. Like I said before I love staying at Hazelhurst. I am booked for September and have some friends staying with us so 4 people sharing a shower. I do not want to sound like a moaner. But cost is £900 ish in Sep so please a shower that works. So basically my concern is not with owners it is with the Letting agents!

We had a lovely holiday here at Hazelhurst.

The cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Would stay here again and recommend it.

To find a property with parking for 2 cars and a huge sun trap garden was amazing.

Fantastic location to explore cornwall. Can't wait to come back for next year if possible and would do 2 weeks.

Lovely level garden, ideal for little ones, lots of toys for little children. Good location for Rock, Polzeath, Wadebridge, Padstow, easy commute to other parts of Cornwall. We found the beds to be comfortable, and furnishings appropriate for the property. The seating in the lounge was adequate, but not the most comfortable of seating. The whole house was well equipped, all in all a great property to rent.

5 mile walk into Rock & ferry to Padstow. Comfy beds, plenty of kitchen crockery & utensils, parking for 2 cars. Found lounge furniture a little too low, but we have still rebooked for 2 weeks in September.

House was lovely, very clean and the most comfortable beds.

Sadly we had to leave early as my father was rushed into hospital but we would love to return another time. Annie.

It is a lovely property, with great facilities, especially for families.

It was really clean and well equipped.

Hazelhurst was a home from home and had everything we needed and more, plus some things in multiples.

We were actually there two weeks as our friends booked a week, then we booked the week before and part overlapped/shared (after making sure all covid safe - as best you can). Thank you.
