The cottage was fine but in this day and age not to provide bedding and towels was a total pain.

Lovely cottage in Rock.

Had all we needed for a weekends sailing. Would book again. Short walk into the center and the beach.

St Michael’s delivers a warm & comfortable stay.

We love this area & will definitely return. Just to say the night storage heater in the downstairs bedroom wasn’t working it didn’t affect our stay but needs attending. Cornwall is a great place to stay delivering quality.

Clean and tidy.

Perfect for us as a couple. Kitchen had everything you need. Night storage heaters tricky to get right. Downstairs bedroom heater didn’t seem to work. Good location for a short stroll to Porthilly beach. Would book again. It’s a little dated in places but didn’t impact on our enjoyment staying there.

Another lovely comfortable stay at st Michaels.

You feel at home straight away and its location to the beaches is just perfect. Courtyard beautiful even on wet cloudy days. However, Just a couple of comments (which would not put us off rebooking it) ..washing machine seal was thick with black mould..I removed as best I could. The frontage of the cottage looks a bit 'tired' , especially compared to other properties on the road.

The property, garden and location are perfect.

... Only one small problem that wasn't resolved during our stay... We couldn't get power to the dvd player. This was important as we had to young children with us and it would have been very useful on our rainy day... And when the younger one was unwell one day

This is the third time we’ve stayed at St Michaels over the years, it’s a great little cottage within easy walking distance of Porthilly Cove.

It’s well equipped with comfy sofas and a fab little sheltered, enclosed back patio. We will definitely book again. Possible things to improve on would be renewing the single mattresses to good quality new ones as these are feeling a bit old and worn. Also please consider providing bedding with beds all made up on arrival, this would be so much nicer than having to take all our own bedding.

Extensive DVD library which was promsing except the DVD player did not work, would not turn on.

Lovely house very clean amenities great.

Comfortable home from home. Small courtyard very pretty with plants flowers. Close to beach. Only thing we could fault was the shower downstairs leaking a bit and trying to get temperature right.

Great location and value for money.

Comfortable bed in master. Main negative is quite a noisy road outside which wasn't made clear plus close proximity to wedding venue that played loud music both weekends, plus would be better with smart tv (for access to streaming services etc) for when in the property if weather isn't great or on an evening. Altogether pleasant stay and would return.

Overall a nice cottage that would get 4 stars if it were not for the storage heating system.

We arrived to a freezing cold cottage with storage heaters that had no heat at all apart from the one in the main sitting room, which was struggling to cope. It was telling that there were two electric heaters, a quick phone call for help to the office and the maintenance guy arrived to advise us on how to use them and deliver another heater. If you don’t want to boil at 2 in the morning make sure you adjust them before you go to bed. The rooms were either cold or too hot for the whole stay which made it a less relaxing than it might have been otherwise because the sitting room is nicely furnished. The kitchen was also cold as there is no heating close enough to make an impact on a cold Feb morning. The beds were comfortable and the upstairs bathroom was nice, but the downstairs shower room was freezing again so only used it when really needed. Only odd things were the square dinner plates that were too big for the dishwasher and the washing up bowl was too big for the sink so a bit of a faff to wash up. Otherwise the kitchen seemed well kitted out. The outside space looked nice but we didn’t use it being February.

We felt this cottage had some slightly harsh reviews online and wanted to say that it was lovely - well kitted out, comfortable and warm.

The heating system is storage heaters, but once you get the hang of them, works fine. The courtyard gets a little bit of sun and had space to hang out wetsuits etc. Nice location just a few minutes from the beach - great for walking the dog.

Great location.Easy walk to the cove and beyond. Only problem I had was locking the front door !! It was a bit hit and miss .

Place really needs a hit of money spending to bring up to date.

Electrical wires not in conduit for one. Every time we put the towel rail on. The downstairs bathroom tripped the fuse. The microwave was making a very weird noise. This in my view is basic and should be checked prior to rental.

Upon reading a negative review prior to our stay, I did reach out to John Bray ahead of our arrival.

Having now spent a week at St Michael's I do agree with some comments previously posted but unfairly that review is no longer visible. St Michael's is superbly located for the beach and a short stroll into the Village. The lounge in particular has been furnished sympathetically, making it comfortable and cosy. The kitchen is superbly kitted out, albeit the oven and hob were rusty in places. The downstairs shower was dirty and well overdue a refurb. The tops of the economy 7 radiators were grimy and the courtyard area is in desperate need of a jet wash. The up cycling of the bedroom furniture is commendable, but the pieces are now stained, shabby and unsightly. All in all, I wouldn't return to St Michael's. The rental price is reflective of the proximity to the beach and not on the standard of accomodation on offer.

Was a lovely cottage in a great location the only couple of things I would say but wouldn't put me off booking again.

The bedroom curtains did not block out any light even with the blinds so when the early morning sunrises 5something there is no getting back to sleep as the room was so bright sadly. The court yard looked lovely on the photos however never sat out there as was really dirty, could do with a good jet wash and not the property fault but no sun in the evening which was a shame.

Only grumble was the heating which took hours to heat up & hours to cool down - maybe I was doing something wrong? Fortunately the weather was good so not a big issue .

A lovely house, location, + highly recommend!

St Michael's is a wonderful little character cottage in a cracking location just up from Prothilly Beach.

We had a lovely stay at St Michaels, the location was perfect and the cottage was well equipped and very cosy.

We will definitely be back !

Lovely house, lovely location.

BUT!! the house was absolutely disgusting we had to clean all cooking utensils and crockery as it had been put away dirty. The downstairs loo had human excrement on it. And bathroom room was not very clean. Out side in the court yard was dog poo and used dish clothes. The house was generally not very clean. Would not recommend. Which is quite sad. I have never complained about a house before.

The cottage is well placed for walking to the beach and cafes etc.

There is quite a lot of road traffic very early in the morning going to the Oyster farm. Bedding and towels are extra. Could do with clear glass in the door to the yard, to make it less oppressive on dull days.

Lovely cottage - well equipped, clean, well situated, nicely decorated, comfy beds, quiet location, good parking.

We chose it becaue there was an accesible, downstairs bedroom which suited an elderly grandparent. Bit of a pain bringing and fitting our own bed linen, but I guess this keeps the cost down? It even had a few extras which were not listed - an outside shed for storing wet beach gear with a tumble drier there. Also a cafetiere and hair-dryer (John Bray told me these were not at the property so we had to bring our own, unecessarily). We discovered the shower head fixing was broken but John Bray got it fixed straight away (on the Saturday). Having only one stand-up shower was OK for us as a group of 3, but if 6 were staying, then there might be a bit of a queue in the morning, or after a day at the beach! I suppose children would be happy to use the upstairs bath and hand shower. Overall, I would recommend the place.

We really enjoyed our stay at St Michaels.

Loved the location, and the property was comfortable and cozy. Very close to Rock and just a few minutes from Porthilly beach too. Added bonus of a couple of electric car charging points just up the road which was a real plus being an EV driver. We will certainly return.

The cottage at St Michaels is in a good location.

The beds are comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. There is a washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer which were all useful. We had some problems with the keysafe but these were resolved quickly and the staff at John Bray were both friendly and helpful. Only negatives: We were aware that we had to bring our own linen and towels but I personally think this should never be the case nowadays. The cottage was not as clean as we would have hoped- kitchen and bathrooms were clean but around the house things were a bit grubby.

There were a couple of snaggy issues that we let the John Bray office know about and someone came to fix them the next morning.

This was very reassuring that problems are taken seriously and resolved.
