We had a really lovely week at Ossco.

From the minute we arrived and saw the views, we were delighted! Lots of space for a party of 12 and even an annex for revision! The house is very homely and not too fussy that you can't just make yourself at home. Our friends all had a wonderful time and the location is great for coastal path walks.

We've just had a fantastic long weekend at 'Ossco'.

The house felt so welcoming when we arrived and we immediately felt at home. There were twelve in our party, three generations, and we all had a great time, a very well equipped house catering for all ages. With extensive grounds and a wonderful view, what's not to love.

We have been back to Ossco over the years & have been pleased to see the improvements that have been made.

2 kettles would be a great help! Our family feels like its home from home & we look forward to enjoying more stays in the years ahead.

This property was excellent with commanding views of the coast and extremely spacious both internally and externally.

We were a 3 generational family and the space and facilities provided an excellent holiday base for us all. The dogs particularly enjoyed the garden, as did our grandchildren playing football and cricket. The quality of the fittings were exceptional for a holiday let and whilst this is purely an observation there are a couple of things that the owner might wish to be aware of: a loose electrical socket in the back downstairs bedroom and the installation of frosted glass in bathroom and toilet windows would provide privacy. We would love to return.

For reference, we booked the beautiful Ossco for a two week stay for my father's 80th birthday celebrations, a very special occasion which was sadly marked by a series of issues.

Ossco is a beautiful house in a breathtaking setting and we were been blown away by the views but sadly the upkeep of the property has been less than impressive and it's definitely NOT worth the £11k pricetag we paid for a 2 week stay - we feel completely shortchanged.   Firstly a Huge Health and Safety issue, hence first on the list - The Ballistrades at the front of the house are rotten. My husband lent on one and nearly fell 20 feet into the outdoor shower area below. God forbid children are playing and can't stop their fall. Please reassure us that this will be fixed straight away. When we entered the house it was filthy - especially the bedrooms which my elderly mother ended up cleaning by hand herself before everybody arrived (picture attached).  The mattresses on the bunk beds were disgusting (see footage attached) - covered in dirty brown stains (see footage attached) & no chest of drawers for the kids to put their clothes. The blinds in our bedroom were stained and watermarked (see pics) There was no chest of drawers in my parents room so they lived out of their suitcases on the floor for TWO WEEKS! There was a small wardrobe/cupboard thing to hang stuff but no drawers - unacceptable for a two week stay. There was no wardrobe in our bedroom so we didn't have anywhere to hang stuff - ended up hanging our clothes with the coats in the hallway - not acceptable. There were not enough coat hangers in the house for 12 people - this is a minor detail but frustrating none the less Outside the decking was dirty and covered in debris and several of the outdoor chairs were broken. There weren't enough cushions for the outdoor chairs and the ones we had were soiled, tattered and torn (see pics) The kettle doesn't boil unless you hold the switch down - again this is pretty minor but frustrating enough for several people to have noted it in their reviews on the house.  Lightbulbs needed replacing The wifi didn't work in any of the bedrooms and the booster wifi didn't work either - we tried all the passwords etc. Light switches were coming off in our hands The curtain rail in TWO of the bathrooms fell off several times - once narrowly missing my sisters head!! The bathroom door hook in one of the bathrooms fell off The water rushes out of the kitchen tap and splashes up fiercely, spraying your clothes everytime you use it - clearly needs a new washer, you can't turn it on for a low flow. The Aga was broken and the oven IS NOT  big enough to cater for 12 people - to be fair, the oven is old and needs completely replacing as the rings on top don't heat as they should either.  The games room IS NOT a games room (as in the floor plans - very misleading), it's dirty, smelly and so cluttered with "stuff" you can't even play table tennis.   The sofas need replacing, the are so uncomfortable to sit on especially the blue and white one. Again previous people have noted this in their reviews but nothing has been done about it.  Security - the locks on the doors are really weak, the front door and the front donwstairs bedroom especially, these could easily be broken with a quick nudge of the shoulder.  We were expecting a change of sheets/towels and a house clean half way through our two week stay but this didn't happen. The house feels loved but very worn and tired - if the photos on your website had reflected the "real" Ossco we would never have booked it. All in all a lot which needs to be addressed and leaves us with a bitter taste.

Ossco is the most stunning house in a truly beautiful location, we had a fabulous holiday with everyone thoroughly enjoying their stay.

The house is so well appointed, the best equipped kitchen we have ever had, literally everything you could possibly want! The décor is so homely for a holiday let and lots of room for everyone to enjoy being together and also have a little quiet time. Our dogs loved the huge garden and the freedom it offered. The sunrises and sunsets were magical and the beautiful colours of the scenery around were breath-taking, the most relaxing holiday we have shared for a long time. Thank you all at Ossco! Observations for the owner only ~ When we arrived the bbq had not been cleaned, there was a broken dish and another dish that had a huge crack in which we put out when we left to be removed. I don't know when they had been damaged but they had clearly been pushed back in the cupboard as no-one wanted to take responsibility. The kettle switch had to be held down for a few seconds before it would actually stay on. The body of the toaster got very hot when it was used which didn't seem quite right. There were a number of light switches and plugs that don't work, I would recommend an electrician looks at this. The sliding doors don't move very easily, maybe some WD40 would help so the floor doesn't get scratched. The bottom sheet on the bed in the main bedroom was inside out and a size too small, this meant the mattress was visible which wasn't great. There was a duster left in this room when we arrived as well which made me think the cleaning had possibly been done in a bit of a rush. The hoover has two huge screws sticking out of the bottom which made hoovering the wooden floors very stressful as we were terrified they would scratch the floor. When we arrived there was a huge plastic bag of bottles that had been left. We did put these out for the binmen when we left. A couple of the chairs in the lounge and snug were a bit marked. I really want to stress that these are observations that I hope will be helpful for the owner NOT complaints. We had the most wonderful week and Ossco was the best possible base for our holiday, we would love to come again. These were just things that someone else may well complain about and also things that could could potentially damage the property which would be really sad as it's such a stunning place.

Hi, we had a lovely stay at Ossco.

A lovely home, great location with amazing views. We did however suffer with a couple of problems...the heating in the downstairs rear back bedroom and bathroom wasn't working for a couple of days but this was fixed, thank you. Unfortunately the maintenance team dropped of a couple of heaters in the interim and one caught fire within a few minutes of being turned on and filled the bedroom with smoke, the second heater blew in the night and sparked meaning we had to leave this one turned off too. This was especially concerning as a baby as well as parents were in the room. Also, the house overall was just too hot the whole week but according to the instructions next to each room thermostat we were asked to not fiddle with the heat setting? Crazy! Surely we should have the opporunity to regulate the heat as needed? We would visit again as I'm sure the heating for the bedroom and bathroom were just a small issue that was rectified quickly and without fuss. So our only comment really is the before any heaters are left they are checked and tested as it really could have been a terrible sitaution where the house could have caught fire and people hurt, also the freedom to opertate the heating up or down as needed as this is the one thing that would stop us returning.

Loved watching the kids run free and the waves roll in. The house was the perfect space for my Dads 80th celebrations with 2 older couples plus 2 younger with 4 kids. Brilliant location above Lundy bay with great walks around the Rumps and Polzeaths amenities down the road. Thank you.

Beautiful property, fantastic views, safe for the dogs which makes our holiday.

Nice and easy to access the coast path. Couple of things that could be improved in our opinion…Main bedroom upstairs would benefit from new mattress (very lumpy) an upgrade with the electric cleaner would be a definite bonus, cordless would be so much better, there is a lot of hard floor surface to keep clean.

A very nice house in a wonderful setting , with a layout that perfectly met the needs of a three- generation family holiday , combining modern open -plan living with plenty of separate rooms for snatching moments of peace and quiet.

The presence of owner’s personal items and mementos added warmth and character. We enjoyed the access to secluded beaches and coastal paths , but what will remain with us above all are those stunning uninterrupted views of the sea and headlands . A special place . Kevin and Alison Tebbit

Our 3 rd time @ Ossco & appreciated decking being replaced after repairs last year that we requested.

Aga not working, oil had to be refilled but never re connected. Not a problem for us, but needed to be reported. A cordless Dyson would be a great help as brooms next to useless on kitchen floor…. We had a wonderful family time @ Ossco & would appreciate another booking for 2025 from 29/8 to 05/9 as my family consider it as a home from home… not that any of us have that view!! Please confirm that we will be contacted when 2025 bookings open. 2 glasses & 1 mug broken, please advise re payment for these broken items .Thank you, Susan Walters & family

A beautiful house with an outstanding view.

By far one of the most impressive houses I’ve stayed in. The house was perfect for our multi generational family holiday.

This was a stunning property, not just the house and its facilities, but also the location - just perfect.

This has been the best property we’ve stayed in and we’ve been coming down to Cornwall twice a year for 20+ years. The owner was also very prompt in getting back to us regarding a minor query, and was very helpful. We would certainly stay again - the only downside is that the property seems to be fully booked for the next few years! Thank you for a great stay.

Ossco is a wonderful property and the view is simply amazing.

We were a family of four generations plus two dogs and it was perfect for us - a unique blend of a lovely home in a beautiful setting overlooking the sea, but not too perfect that we couldn't relax as we had younger and older children as well as grandparents with us. It has a gate on the front and a huge field at the back so absolutely perfect for children and dogs. The annexe was an added bonus too. There are walks adjacent to the property and the kids loved exploring at the bottom of the garden. Polzeath is just a 5 mins car journey away and although not huge it has what you need ie a few restaurants/pubs, coffee shop, clothes shops and a local spar. The beach is amazing too and the kids had so much fun running around in and out of the water. Tesco delivered our food twice during the week which was really helpful as their was 12 of us! A couple of points for the owner not to be published - There has been some new decking put down which is lovely but the old decking has been left on the car park with some nails and screws sticking up - Also some glass has been taken out of the railing next to the decking and has been left placed against the hedge - this could have been a bit dangerous as we had young children and dogs with us running around, so ideally needs removing or put in the garage. The large sliding door in the kitchen - we also struggled to lock sometimes. Lastly there is also a blue sofa in the lounge with throws on that is really uncomfortable so again ideally needs replacing. Otherwise than that we had the most perfect week and we have already enquired about rebooking in 2026 ;-) Thank you again for sharing your lovely house with us.

As always, Ossco was warm and welcoming, We loved the new kitchen!

The dishwasher was replaced as soon as I mentioned it (pity the previous occupants hadn't mentioned it, though. It was full off smelly water when we arrived) Just one administrative matter - some roofers turned up while we were there to replace some tiles on the roof. We would have felt more comfortable about it if John Bray had let us know that they were coming, At least we would have know they were genuine. Unlike everyone else who came, they were not wearing identification.

We have been visiting Polzeath for over 40 years and stayed in an array of JB properties.

Ossco is an absolute gem, we've had the most amazing time; swimming in Lusty, walks to Port Isaac and Pentire and endless games of rounders in the most fabulous garden. Ossco feels very much like a home rather than a holiday let which we loved. We took our 1 year old Newfoundland who had the most amazing time chasing seagulls, swimming in Daymer and enjoying an occasional ice cream in Padstow...can't wait to return ❤️

For us everything was perfect.

We loved all the wood and stone used throughout the house and found it very cozy. Our only issue would be with the beds. I think everyone found the mattresses to be a little lumpy.

We had an amazing time.

The property and location is stunning. The property is warm and seating very comfortable. The water was hot and facilities were satisfactory. There was plenty to entertain the children. The walks were wonderful and the outside area although not secure for dogs was a great space. However there is an odd smell in downstairs bathroom. Some of the light switches pop off. Instructions for use of Aga and log burner would have been helpful as the WiFi is a bit dodgy and only works in living area. Single beds were uncomfortable for adults as mattresses were a little worn out. That said we would book this again in a heartbeat.

Great house, very comfortable and fabulous views of course. Thank you for the welcome treat. We did not feel that as mentioned in previous reviews that it was dated, just a lovely warm family home. Thank you for sharing it.

Ossco is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location.

Well thought out as for what you would require on holiday. Maybe could be updated slightly as decking area is moving slightly with joists starting to fail , but did not detract from our great holiday. A welcome book maybe a positive for guests with information for internet and things to do in the area but the welcome bag of tea and coffee etc was much appreciated. Will definitely be returning if possible. Thankyou.

Property has the best view and is so calming the area is fantastic.

The property needs some furnishing updating beds uncomfortable and hard, single mattress on bunk beds need attention. We got locked out of the utility door as the lock had failed but John bray attended and let us in within 40 minutes had an issue with ants crawling over the table and worktops, but on the 5th day of the holiday a team arrived to dig a trench and lay new pipes in the garden as they had an issue with a smell so where fitting a vent which we where not told about so couldn’t use outside the whole day. The smell down stairs at night time was really over powering more so I’m the bathroom and utility room of drains we had to run the water several times to try and move the smell. We moved the bin in the utility on night 5 and found a mouse box with poison in which we where shocked at the thought they had an issue with mice and we where sleeping down there on that floor they also had one outside the bedroom door we where sleeping at which is on the same floor so the last 3 nights my partner didn’t sleep well at this thought. It’s a shame as this could be an amazing holiday but for us it was spoilt and we wouldn’t be coming back again unless the issues where sorted the layout and views are perfect.

This is the second time we have stayed at Ossco.

It's a very comfortable house, well laid out and always warm. The kitchen is very well equipped and it's always a treat to have an Aga. The large garden with views to the sea beyond gives it an expansive feel, and makes it ideal for children and dogs. Our only comment is that 8 years on from our last visit, the house has not been updated. The decor feels rather dated now, particularly the sitting room and bedroom furniture, and although this does not affect its comfort, it does put it out of step with other properties in which we have stayed recently. All that said, we had a lovely week and it's the perfect base from which to make the most of the area.

Ossco is absolutely beautiful.

The house, the location, the facilities all provide for a wonderful holiday, something we look forward to year by year.

The house is lovely overall and a great location with a beautiful view.

The decor is nice and the main rooms are really nice for a family holiday. We would definitely stay again but would appreciate a few small issues being addressed before next year.......... The Aga makes the kitchen too hot and needs to be switched off in summer, we had to keep the doors open whenever we were there. All that heat is not ideal for leaving a dog at home for some of the day either. Most of the bedrooms need better curtains and blinds to darken the rooms, ideally all in blackout material The keys needs sorting and labelling, it took a while to find what we needed in the box of keys and junk. The bathrooms need a good check over to fix the almost non-functioning toilet flushes etc. (I called and for it to be fixed but no one ever came and did it). It would help to have an instruction card on arrival e.g. bin collection (that guests don't need to put any bins out). For the price we expected a small welcome basket - some tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and a pint of milk in the fridge to keep us going until the shopping delivery arrived!

We enjoyed our return visit to Ossco - its privacy, views and location really are its best points.

It could now do with some investment in bettering its mattresses and furnishings however as all were rather worn and uncomfortable. Still love that view though - it is a winner!
