Baywatch Sands

Dreadful smell in the house, right next to the bouncy castles , very poor response from John Bray when we raised the issue of the smell in the house on day, we were unable to speak with anybody about the issue and no one contacted us or came out to see.

The property is fantastic, the only feedback I would like to give is that the mattresses are a little uncomfortable , the single mattress downstairs is quite bad as you can feel the springs inside and it is noisy when moving around.

The only other issues I'd like to point out are the hot water seems a bit tricky, you have to put the cold tap on full and then quickly switch it to the hot for the hot to come through and is hard to control. The other one is the heating is tricky, there is a pin on the controls so we couldn't really change this for my 2-year old. We managed though.

We stayed for 3 nights over New Year.

Great location near Polzeath beach, local bars and restaurants. The accommodation is immediately next to crazy golf and a bounce park which during high season may be busy. It was closed during our stay. The accommodation had everything we needed although more on the basic side for the price. There is one bathroom with an electric shower which is adequate. The heating though is storage heaters which hadn’t been given sufficient time to heat the property. Therefore it was very very cold and uncomfortable for the first two days of our stay.

We were blessed with wonderful weather, made the most of the beaches and walking all on the doorstep.

The hose suited our needs. The family go away with many happy memories and would love to return .

It is in the absolute perfect location for the beach on a quiet track and was clean and just what we needed for our holiday. I could have done with a dishwasher but it wasn't a big problem at all and it is obviously a very loved home by its owners. Thanks so so much. Flossy

I am in two minds of asking for a partial refund as there are a lot of the several issues with this property.

There was no hot water in the kitchen and the kitchen tap had tape around it and was spraying around water whilst trying to wash up, clearly hasn't been fixed as a previous reviewer had indicated it before. The oven is a joke, needs replacing/updating, takes about half an hour to heat up. Wifi was non-existent and kept dropping out. You can't relax in this place as the upstairs sofa is so uncomfortable, the bedroom pillows lacked any support. Worst of all is that there was a horrible sewage smell for two full days when you entered the property, a stench that lingered, drains need addressing - it has been mentioned in the guest book by the other people too. The best thing about this place is how near it is to the beach, walking distance which is ideal. The design of the place is nice and decorative but we will not be returning unless all these issues are dealt with.

Really enjoyed staying in this quirky home.

So close to the beach and we were blessed with glorious weather. We will definitely book again. (The kitchen tap does need fixing though)

A brilliant base to Polzeath.

We've stayed in many places over the years and this has to be one of our favourites! LOVE the quirky decor. Comfortable, clean, perfect location and the weather was amazing all week. We left feeling refreshed and recharged. Sadly very close to Bouncezone though which at easter was not bust but can imagine in the Summer this could get very noisy.

Beware as listing is out of date and inaccurate.

The house is a few feet from the Bounce Zone and crazy golf. Not the relaxing break promised. Customer Services completely unhelpful. Have booked through John Bray for years, never again after this.

Be aware that photos do not show that the adjacent tennis court is occupied by "The Bounce Zone" which consists of three bouncy castles and trampolines.

This is about five metres from the front door. Music from this is audible throughout the day. Otherwise this is a great place to stay mainly for the proximity to the beach. There is parking outside the property. Back yard is pretty scruffy. As others have said there is no dishwasher which is a shame on holiday.

Mini golf and bouncy castles within yards of house with resultant noise etc no mention of this as last year all was empty.

front door entrance not easy for older people. stair lights not working. internet tv was on/off due i assume overload in area or house and no normal channels.

The only thing that would have made the stay better would have been the addition of a dishwasher, but we appreciate there is probably not enough space to install one.

We had a lovely holiday in a lovely location with walking distance to the beach and amenities,clean but this is our 3rd visit but there is a awful smell when you walk into the property and it was there all week if this could be sorted it would be perfect otherwise enjoyed our stay and will be back next year

Superb location - just a stone’s throw from Polzeath beach.

Comfortable bed and lots of space. Little balcony is a great bonus. Would definitely rent this place again when we next visit Polzeath.

I was very dissatisfied when we arrived to find no heating on , it is not expecting to much to make arrangements for some one to switch the heating on 24hr in advance.

The supplementary heating was not easy to find, placed in a more prominent position would be helpful. The hob was reported broken on Monday ,no response, after another phone call the engineer replaced the unit on Wednesday the day before we finished our holiday. The engineer was helpful and efficient.

We have just had the most amazing holiday at Baywatch.

We were a little worried as some of the previous reviews mentioned the property being a bit tired but this was NOT the case at all. It was spacious for our family, comfortable, clean, lovely kitchen facilities (the only improvement here would be a dishwasher!) and it was great to have a washer and dryer after long days on the beach! Great bathroom and wonderful shower. Really cute little garden and we woke up with the property surrounded by rabbits each morning. Such a great location - 1 minute walk to the beach! We already booked for next year whilst we were there. Thank you.

We had a lovely time and location of the property is perfect avoiding any steep slopes and hills on your way to the beach.

Had everything we needed within a stones throw, beds were comfy, kitchen perfect and was lovely to have options to sit out at the property to relax. Only things we did notice were the drains seem to fire up from the sink/toilet/etc leaving a bit of a constant whiff and questions being asked!! Also the stairs are incredibly noisy, if sleeping on the top floor and you need the loo in the night or are first up, you’re guaranteed to stir/wake others. That said I would definitely recommend as positives easily outweigh the negatives! Thank you!

We loved our stay at Baywatch Sands, despite not having great weather !

I think we were lucky to be one of the first to benefit from the recent upgrading/ refurbishment, the decor is now really fun and fresh and the new kitchen and bathroom are good quality and well equipped. The location is superb and it’s very handy to be able to park directly outside. We have been coming to Rock and Polzeath for 30 years but this was definitely one of the nicest places and locations we’ve stayed, we will definitely look at rebooking. Just a couple of things we thought would make it perfect…. firstly, gates on either side of the top terrace so you can leave the door open and have a secured outside space for children or dogs. And secondly, if possible to fit either 2 singles or a king size bed into the top bedroom as a double bed feels just too small to get a decent night sleep in !

Great location but the property needs some attention as very dated.

The outdoor space could use some table/chairs as currently there is none. Great for a short break and although dated, had everything we needed.

Property is in a great location very close to the beach and amenitiies and you don't need to walk up or down a hill which you do with most other properties in the area!

There's no doubt that the property needs modernising however I could see that from the photo's before I booked it so I was aware. The property was really clean with new bedding (I decided to strip the bed when I left and duvets, pillows, mattresses etc were spotless). Would have been nice to have a dishwasher but appreciate not the space but it did have a washing machine which is needed being near the beach! I would stay again..

This property is very well located but unfortunately very tired and needs a lot of attention.

Little effort made to make the exterior patio look attractive or welcoming (just a concrete back yard really with loose pavings). A picnic table rather than an exterior dining table with beach chairs too low to sit on to eat at the table. No washing line (John Bray employee did drop one off a couple of days after requesting it). The bathroom towel heater old and rusty. Tiles coming off the wall at the end of the bath. A "barrier" made out of mastic on the bathroom shelf to divert the shower water from going on the floor. Curtains not lined and no shutters so tricky to sleep beyond 5am. Would rather have had a coffee machine than a microwave. No freezer just a small under counter fridge. All cupboards smelt musty. We had a great holiday in wonderful Polzeath but would not return to this property.

Amazing Location so close to the beach, its a great family base for a week to explore Polzeath.

we loved its quirky layout and has lots of room, for our family of 4, 2x kids aged 9 and 12. The parking space is a huge benefit, with out door space and a veranda to watch the sun go down from. Could do with a dishwasher (no one likes to wash-up on holiday) and drying racks for wetsuits and clothes. Its so good we are booking again.
