“We loved the location of the property.”

It was ideal being so close to the beach and shops/bars etc. The furnishings in the house were basic but comfortable. The bathroom was good, clean and spacious. Unfortunately there was no cutlery at all in the kitchen, very odd! Upon arrival it seemed some rooms in house had not been cleaned. There was sand on the floors and one bedroom had underwear left on the bed in the duvet. Not a great start to our stay.

“We enjoyed a rainy week at Burwyn.”

Nice bungalow, good sky/tree views. Service from John Bray/Sykes was excellent, we left a bag behind and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Shower weak/steep steps/brambles overhanging steps so got caught on them , but overall a good cottage, close to village and sea.

“The holiday home is located lovely and the steps mentioned are accurate.”

What is not acceptable by both John Bray and the property owner is not disclosing the location of the cutlery. Having a draw inside a draw which is not mentioned in the booklet (weird that the quality of the broadband is but not cutlery) So I went to get some to eat not knowing this Friday evening, and then nobody from the company to ask about this (should be somebody on call) so had 4 pairs of eyes look and nobody could locate so went to Spar to purchase a set. Phone Monday morning to ask to be reimbursed for no cutlery only to be told it’s located “in the compartment between the work surface and a drawer.” So quite clearly not a location which one would look for and no reimbursement given. For £9.50 and the amount of money you spend for the holiday home with this company, the level of customer service is disgusting. It’s not the amount it’s the principle and the inconvenience that it caused when on holiday. What happened to customer is always right? There was no instructions of where to locate the cutlery otherwise I’d say fair enough it’s on me. But this is on John Bray and the owner to make known this unusual and uncommon location. Never have I come across such a design/location for cutlery. The cleaners do a basic job, appreciate its quick turnaround in season. The washing machine doesn’t work properly and also turns off when shower is in use.

“Had a fabulous week, Burwyn was immaculate, had everything we might need.”

Very well equipped kitchen, and dishwasher perfect for a foodie family!! 6 adults and there was plenty of room. We were able to sit outside for a few meals with a fantastic view. Car parks spaces were a real bonus, and the beach - maybe 6 minutes walk. Perfect!!

The colourful seaside decor is in keeping with its great location in the centre of Polzeath with a level walk to the beach. Having allocated parking spaces was a bonus.

The listing did warn of steep steps & they were steep, but we soon got used to them. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

“What a lovely surprise to find out that Burwyn had been fitted with a brand new bathroom and an outdoor shower.”

We loved our stay and due to the great weather , used the outdoor shower to wash off in our wetsuits. Altogether a really good value property with an amazing location.

“It is a lovely little bungalow and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.”

It is well appointed and well situated for beach activities. However it was not very well cleaned . Usually JB properties are spotless on arrival. This was a bit dusty and one of the duvets in the third bedroom was soiled ( luckily we did not use that room). We found a variety of things under sofa cushions and down the back of mattresses as we made up the beds. We left the smart watch we found on the kitchen shelf. some of the crockery and glasses were sticky and / or had white deposits in them . We just ran them through the dishwasher before using. The toilet seat had some alarming stains too, rust or blood around the hinges? . I used my own cleaning equipment to remove as much of the staining as I could , but I think it may need replacing . It looked as if it had been there a long while. That is some thing that a good cleaning team should pick up on. we sanitised and disinfected all surfaces before we left so the next visitors felt more comfortable on arrival than we did.

“Lovely welcome to the place with a fresh smell!”

The place smelt so clean!. It was particularly nice to have a lot of hangers in the wardrobe. The kids loved playing with the games! I would say place on your advert that you have an iron and a iron board for a parent with kids it would be useful to know. The steps kept us fit! Loved the nature …ducks, rabbits and toads. Very peaceful here which we wanted. Despite the inside being comfortable we thought the outside could have done with new furniture and a lick of paint on the fence. Loved this place though and Definitely would recommend

The property

Located a couple of minutes walk behind Polzeath beach, Burwyn is a charming bungalow set in an elevated, peaceful position.

Facing South-West and with views towards Pentire Point and the sea, Burwyn has a furnished sun deck and a steep garden with steps descending down to a quiet road leading to the beach.

Well-equipped and comfortable, this self-catering holiday retreat sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms and is ideally situated for a week by the beach in this beautiful part of North Cornwall.A cosy place to stay at cooler times of the year, Burwyn has double glazing and electric heaters throughout, with a wood burner in the sitting room for cooler days.

The compact kitchen is nevertheless a bright, pleasant and well equipped space to create delicious summer salads or moules marinieres with local Porthilly mussels.

Two bedrooms have double beds and the third is a bunk room, ideal for children.A fabulous family seaside resort, Polzeath has wetsuits and surfboards for hire by the hour, and surf schools to improve your pop up and balance.

A choice of great cafes and restaurants overlook the beach and give lovely opportunities for a midday refuel or an evening sundowner.

Walk across the beach to join the coastal path for a stomp along rugged cliffs or in the other direction, past Greenaway towards the gentle cove of Daymer Bay; lovely to drop down to the water line to explore the inlets and rock pools.

About the location

POLZEATH

Wadebridge 7.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles.

The seaside village of Polzeath boasts a sandy beach, which is bordered by rock pools and is acclaimed to be one of the best surfing beaches in the country. Polzeath itself has a number of small shops, cafes and restaurants, and the South West Coast Path, a 630-mile route, runs through the village. Just over seven miles away is the popular market town of Wadebridge, which is set alongside the River Camel and offers an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as North Cornwall's only family-owned cinema. There’s wonderful countryside in the area, with the renowned Camel Trail passing through the town, and the nearby town of Padstow, with its harbour, pastel-washed medieval houses and celebrated restaurants is well worth exploring. Within driving distance is the UK surfing capital of Newquay, with over 11 miles of golden sandy beaches. Polzeath is an excellent base for exploring this part of Cornwall.
