“A terrible service both from John Bray holidays and the house itself.”

John Bray are impossible to get hold of. The lettings email for problems when we were there was not answered until we left. Then it was an automated email saying they would get back to us. We have limited funds and saved to buy the holiday. When I saw the bad reviews I contacted John Bray who said a programme of works was being undertaken to improve the property. I was specific about items mentioned in the bad reviews, We arrived and the house was grimy, everything was cheap, unfit for use or broken. For example, the double bed was ancient, the mattress ancient and the polycotton sheets were ghastly and the bedroom smelled of damp. You sweated at night because the sheets have polyester in! The carpets are old, worn and seemingly without underlay. The bath is stained, the basin cracked and the whole bathroom unacceptable. The lights have the 1990s bulbs in so it’s gloomy even on a nice day. The kitchen floor was so sticky I had to clean it. The cutlery is all mismatched and old. The sofa is absolutely disgusting, torn , worn and with a filthy fleece cover on it- that I washed. The Henry in the cupboard is stuffed full and there are no Henry bags, so we could not even vacuum. The owners should be ashamed. John Bray should not be falsely claiming it is ‘charming’. It is not ‘well used’ it is filthy and unacceptable. We left 3 days early. Be warned, potential customers, the description is inaccurate, it is far worse than you think it could possibly be!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that you feel you have been let down. We have two offices in Rock and Port Isaac where our friendly staff are available to speak to between 9-5:30 PM Monday-Saturday if by some reason you are unable to reach us by phone. We also send an email after your first night to check in and we aim to address housekeeping and maintenance issues as soon as they are reported to us. The points you have raised are shared with our housekeeping and managed services teams as well as the owners. We take all feedback seriously and will look to make any necessary remedial action. The sheets are hired from eco laundry where all our linen is supplied. It is a pity to hear that you left early and we hope you come and visit us next time. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

The property

Coppingers Cottage is located just yards from Polzeath's golden surfing beach, tucked away just inside the Camel Estuary on the north Cornwall coast.

This charming terraced self-catering holiday cottage sleeps 4 guests in two bedrooms and is situated a stone's throw from one of the UK's finest blue-flag surfing beaches.

The property is well used by beach goers with wear and tear reflective in the condition and the owners have tried to make the property available for all budgets, and is not a "boutique style" of property; this should be considered when booking.

Car parking for one car at the Tristram Carpark 700yds - unloading only on the street.Original character features abound in this cosy beach-side cottage.

With thick stone walls, the living/dining room features an original cloam oven and beamed ceilings with plenty of books and games to keep everyone occupied if you can tear yourself away from the beach!

Bring breakfast or dinner in from the galley style kitchen, or pack a picnic and head outdoors.

There is room to store body boards or buckets & spades outside in the courtyard.

Upstairs there is a comfortable double bedroom with sea views, alongside the family bathroom.

A delightful cabin style bunk room to the rear echoes the coastal connection with a tiny round porthole window to boot!Polzeath is perfect for experienced or novice surfers and for traditional bucket and spade beach holidays.

There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs nearby, as well as shops and grocery stores.

Nearby Pentire Point is a National Trust nature reserve, while Hayle Bay is a haven for coastal birds, puffins, dolphins and seals, which can sometimes be seen from the coastal path, or by joining a Sea Safari boat trip.

Located just around the headland from Daymer Bay, another gorgeous sandy beach and a village favoured by the late poet laureate John Betjeman, you can also walk the mile or so at low tide further round to Rock.

Enjoy sailing, paddle boarding, waterskiing or wake boarding at Rock, or catch the day ferry across to Padstow harbour for a fun day out.

About the location

POLZEATH

Wadebridge 7.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles.

The seaside village of Polzeath boasts a sandy beach, which is bordered by rock pools and is acclaimed to be one of the best surfing beaches in the country. Polzeath itself has a number of small shops, cafes and restaurants, and the South West Coast Path, a 630-mile route, runs through the village. Just over seven miles away is the popular market town of Wadebridge, which is set alongside the River Camel and offers an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as North Cornwall's only family-owned cinema. There’s wonderful countryside in the area, with the renowned Camel Trail passing through the town, and the nearby town of Padstow, with its harbour, pastel-washed medieval houses and celebrated restaurants is well worth exploring. Within driving distance is the UK surfing capital of Newquay, with over 11 miles of golden sandy beaches. Polzeath is an excellent base for exploring this part of Cornwall.

Bunk bed suitable for children only.
