“The good news: Beautiful location and spacious property.”
The bad news: It is basic by which I mean it did not feel homely or cosy or properly equipped. The bed is terrible! The mattress is hard and lumpy and I suffered from terrible backache on waking every day of the stay. The furniture is functional, not enough drawer space or coat hangers for a 2 week stay. The bedside rugs do not have any anti-slip features and move very quickly on the tiled floors which is an accident waiting to happen.

The kitchen equipment is basic to say the least. The crockery is very limited, poor quality and appalling (I have photos!). One comment in the visitor book noted that they had "donated" a set of glasses!! There were no chopping knives (only a bread knife), only wooden (unhygenic) chopping boards, tea towels and oven gloves although clean had seen better days. No bin bags. The pans were of poor quality and not suitable for cooking evening meals. There was little in the way of serving dishes.
I book a cottage with a full kitchen as I prefer to cook rather than eat out and this is the first time I have ever been appalled at the lack of usable functional equipment.
The living room rug is full of stains which is not surprising as it is cream. I was unsure of how clean the throws provided in the living area were as I could see stains on both. The TV was fine but note that it does not log out your apps at the end of the stay as stated. The WiFi password should be in the instruction manual in bigger type as it was very difficult to read off the back of the box. The towels provided were too small - it costs very little extra to provide bath sheets and I would have expected these on top of what was provided. We were not offered clean bedding or towels half way through the 2 weeks which I found unusual as I have always been offered this in other properties.
How did I manage? I went out and purchased a suitable non-stick lidded pan for cooking in, 2 matching dinner plates, 2 matching pasta bowls, a glass chopping board, a set of sharp knives, bin bags and 2 bath sheets (none of which I have "donated"). The cost was no more than £40 in total. There are plenty of charity shops in Wadebridge that sell, very cheaply, lovely sets of dinner ware.
The listing also did not state that there was a washing machine for use in the garage so this was actually a bonus. We brought a portable barbeque as the listing did not state that one was provided.
Polzeath is a lovely village that I would not hesitate to visit again but not in this cottage unless the issues above have been rectified - especially that awful bed.
