“A return visit, fabulous home, proper old house, of which there are a diminishing number.”

Having been visiting north Cornwall for more than 50 years, it is sad to see the significant uptick in yet more houses! Given the long winter one would have anticipated the house to have had a proper spring clean and airing, this had not been achieved, rather assumed. The surfaces were not clean (photo shared with agent). Roman blinds in many instances were faulty or simply fallen down (photos shared with agent). Sensor light in en-suite, faulty often staying on all night, shower in ensuite constant dripping. Suggested both sets of steps to house could do with a jet wash as so slippery. Agent was very responsive when we shared feedback. Hopefully, by now all remedies have been completed but if you are booking, do check Recommend no-one to arrive in a fancy car as the lane is in chronic condition, additionally lane might be closed at one end due to building works so exit can only be achieved through the top road, this may be challenging for anything low slung! Be aware if the building construction at the end of lane at Polzeath has a delivery the road will be closed down the hill into Polzeath causing long tailbacks for those who don't heed the diversion signs...... None of the above things spoiled our visit, more irksome particularly as holidays like this are a considerable outlay. Nevertheless, we had super time. It probably cannot be said for others nearer the beach or Trebetherick, the endless dentist drilling sounds of building works, day in day out was awful, again no affect where we were but come the summer, renters be warned about sitting out on terraces during working hours.....

Thank you for the feedback. We are delighted you like the house so much and returned for a second visit but sorry you had the issues you describe. The blinds had been taken down during winter redecoration and have now been put back properly, the sensor lights replaced and the steps jet washed. The dripping shower had been fixed but will now be looked at again. We have also increased the amount of cleaning time on each changeover. Most building work happens in the winter so will hopefully be coming to an end shortly now Spring has sprung so those long, lazy afternoons on the sun deck should be less interrupted. Since last Summer, we have redecorated much of the house (inside and out), updated bedroom lighting, replaced beds, installed new headboards and replaced the carpets in addition to normal maintenance to keep the house at a high standard for our guests. We are sorry you had issues - we try our best to present the house at its best for every guest but we clearly fell short for you stay. Charlie (owner) Property Owner

The property

Believed to have been built in the early 1900s, Westray House is one of the original houses in Polzeath, North Cornwall.

Set in a commanding position a short walk from the centre of the village.

On the seaward side of the house the sun deck has exceptional sea views over the sandy beach, Stepper Point, Gulland Island and the Atlantic Ocean and the added benefit of a hot tub (available at an additional charge).

Steps lead to the landscaped, terraced garden.

The house is accessed via an unmade private road and parking is provided for 2 vehicles at the bottom of the garden.

Sleeping 8 people in 4 bedrooms with 4 bath/shower rooms and 4 WCs, this is a superb, supremely comfortable self catering holiday haven. The house retains many of its original features including slate flag stone flooring in the kitchen, high ceilings and large windows, giving the house a light, modern feel but with the traditional charm of the original building.

A stunning modern wood burner set into the sitting room wall provides a focal point for evenings in with family, friends or a good book.

The first floor has 3 bedrooms; one boasts a comfortable super-king bed with ensuite shower room; 2 further bedrooms (one super-king and one twin) share a smart family bathroom.

Up on the second floor, a twin bedded room with a vaulted ceiling enjoys an ensuite shower room.

The embodiment of a Cornish seaside holiday, Polzeath ticks the boxes for all members of the family.

With a grocery store nearby and a choice of cafes and restaurants, you can leave the car idle for the rest of the week.

So close to the beach, the golden sands are perfect for sunbathers, while the surfers in the family can be the first to hit the waves; return for a slap-up breakfast before heading back into the water.

Hikers and the family dogs can stomp along the coastal path to discover grand cliffs and the quieter bays of Lundy Bay and Epphaven, even reaching Port Quin, this serene cove is an excellent spot to swim at high tide. Wadebridge 7.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles.

The seaside village of Polzeath boasts a sandy beach, which is bordered by rock pools and is acclaimed to be one of the best surfing beaches in the country. Polzeath itself has a number of small shops, cafes and restaurants, and the South West Coast Path, a 630-mile route, runs through the village.
