Shilling Stones

This is a lovely property in a great location with a lovely garden and we enjoyed staying there.

The only negative is that the windows could benefit from a clean to see the views better. We had several problems. Firstly, the house hadn’t been cleaned on arrival or beds made. After filling in an online form we received a phone call the next day with an apology and financial compensation which we were grateful for. The main problem is the local phone number we were given with keys information for local help has been disconnected. It’s not great in an emergency and isn’t friendly or reassuring. The description could have more information about the fact that’s it’s on a steep hill and that there is parking for one car with the rest of the drive dedicated to a communal turning circle for other residents.

We have stayed in quite a few properties in Port Isaac over the years, and Shilling Stones is now one of our favourites.

Great views, very clean and very well equipped kitchen (we loved the air fryer) Always a bonus to have a parking space, and a lovely garden. We will be booking again soon.

This was our second stay in Shilling Stones.

The location + views are superb. We love the outside space, back + front. Everything was clean + comfortable. Hope to be back!

Generally clean and comfortable and views stunning.

Paintwork needs refreshing and coffee table leg with screws in needs sorting. Only real negative was not being able to use the garden due to a seagull nesting in the middle and the huge amount of seagull mess everywhere. I’m sure more could be done to discourage the nesting in the garden. I realise they are a part of life in Port Isaac and it appeared they are liked by the owners as there were many pictures in the property. However, it was disappointing in a sunny week not to be able to use the garden.

Great accomodation although very tight for a large car , Lovely view , well prepared and has everything and more you would want .

Just beware that their is no Mobile phone signal but that over the whole area not just this accomodation so use wifi and its fine . Once again fantastic stay thank you

Plenty of walks and beautiful scenery in such a lovely location. I have wanted to stay in Port Isaac for sometime and would definitely return.

We had a lovely stay in Shilling Stones, the property was as expected, clean, comfortable, well equipped and in a great location with lovely views of Port Isaac and also Tintagel.

Although the property sleeps six I would say it would be more comfortable for a maximum of 4 adults. It was lovely to have the garden to relax in and the view of sunsets from the front of the property were beautiful. The shops, pubs, cafes and harbour of Port Isaac are about 10 minutes walk, the walk back up to the cottage is a little steep until you get used to it. Having parking at the property was a big bonus and with the property being a short walk from the harbour area you don’t have to negotiate the narrow lanes of Port Isaac. Port Isaac is a good base from which to explore North Cornwall. At the front of the property is a footpath leading after a short walk to Port Gaverne. My only suggestion would be to provide a small welcome tray of a few tea bags, coffee and sugar sachets and milk. After a seven hour drive then unpacking not having to walk to the co-op would have been a massive bonus.

The house is in a great position with amazing views. Having parking is a great bonus too. A lovely private garden at the back, which had the sun all day and a patio area at the front looking over the sea. Couldn’t ask for more. The only thing that would have improved our stay, is a welcome pack, milk, bread etc. but in saying that, the shop is a short walk away and is open until 10pm. It really did feel like our home for the week. We are sure to return. Thank you

Property was in a beautiful location with stunning views, everything you needed with the well equipped kitchen and clean throughout Beds were very comfortable.

Loved the garden, so relaxing and brilliant if you have children as completely enclosed. Only thing needing maintenance would be the windows, alot letting drafts in and the main window in living room seal has gone so was condensed up alot spoiling the stunning views.

Great location, wonderful house, beautiful views, blessed with good weather.

House is well equipped, clean and comfortable. Always a pleasure to come back to after a day out. Would gladly return in the future.

As described, up rather a steep hill but who cares when you enjoy a daily view over the whole port. We loved everything.

Lovely property!

Amazing views and for a small kitchen there was everything we needed! We didn’t have children with us but the stair gate was a brilliant touch because if you did have children they would be safe with the kitchen and lounge being upstairs. It was tricky to find in the dark but as I had looked it up on the map we could find it. There was also enough parking as we had 3 cars as we all came from different places and they fitted easily! We would definitely go back!

The accommodation is great, lovely views and good sized lounge, kitchen and bedrooms.

The information booklet was easy to use and informative. We had a great stay at Shilling Stones. The upstairs room was a little cold, I think the radiator may need bleeding.

We had the most enjoyable week at shilling stones, right in the heart of port issac with fantastic views.

The cottage was comfortable and equipped with everything you needed. Would highly recommend this holiday.

Shilling Stones just keeps getting better, we have been spending our holiday there for over twenty years and are very grateful to the owners for letting us enjoy the lovely accommodation

Stayed here before so our return is testament to its quality and how it meets our needs.

Great cottage with great sea view.

There weren’t enough mugs or plates even for two of us and no small glasses. we had to keep washing up or use dishwasher every day. WiFi code in booklet was incorrect correct one on back of router. Booklet said we had to pay for cleaning but John Bray staff said we didn’t.

We have stayed here previously so knew exacttly what we were expecting.

The views are stunning and can be enjoed from the lovely arrangement of the first floor. Appreciate that the owners use the property themselves and this shows in the quality of furnishings and equipment - especially in the kitchen , We'll undoubtedly be back!

This is a lovely cottage with glorious views not only from the upstairs living room but also two of the bedrooms.

Nice garden. Very comfortable beds. Steep drive up to the cottage which didn't bother us and you can't go anywhere is Port Isaac without going up and down hill! Final episode of Doc Martin was being filmed all week which was interesting to watch. My second visit to Port Isaac and I love it here and will be back soon. Can recommend The Mote, The Old School House and The Port Gaverne Hotel for dinner and Fresh From The Sea for excellent crab and lobster salad bowl. Our only niggle was that the windows in the sitting room wouldn't open and given that it was the hottest weather ever the week we were there this was an issue. John Bray sent a handyman but he wasn't able to resolve the problem.

We have stayed every year for 22years during which time Shilling Stones has got even better.

Grateful that the owners allow us to stay in their lovely home ,such a lovely position.

Great cottage, lovely garden and amazing view.

We arrived late Saturday.

Couldn't arrive before 4.30pm as cleaning was being done, the property was well equipped but wasn't the cleanest, the window sils were dusty and the rug in lounge was dirty and had bits all over it along with the sofas, kitchen and bathrooms were clean. The huge windows with amazing views over the port where absolutely covered in seagul mess, which we did manage to get the windows cleaned, it's a shame it didn't mention in the listing about the very very steep path upto to property as for someone disabled with breathing problems made it extreemly difficult to go out for walks, the garden was lovely and a sun trap, we had a relaxing week here and enjoyed the peace and quiet (apart from seaguls and dog constantly barking) downstairs would benefit from a blind or curtain at the front door as when coming out of the bathroom it's a clear view in.. also would be good if a folder with all the places to go and food deliveries was left out along with the visitors book so can be seen as we only found this on the day we were leaving hidden under lots of things in a drawer..

Sea views are fantastic .

Shilling Stones is very well equipped , warm and well looked after. The village is a delight although quite a climb back to the property. Garden is a good size and parking is fine for two cars.

The location is excellent and within easy walking distance of Port Isaac.

The property is light, airy and spacious with everything you need for the perfect holiday, particulary with the fabulous views over the bay from the elevated lounge. The weather on our visit was lovely (especially for early March) and the garden and raised patio area were a bonus for a little al fresco dining. Although a few of the shops and restaurants were closed for the winter season this did not distract from our overall enjoyment of the holiday. Would definitely recommend and will return on a future date.

Property clean and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. A four slot toaster would be helpful. No air con or fans provided so bring your own . A BBQ would have added to our enjoyment of the property also. A folder with places to visit would have been handy too. Theses are only polite suggestions and not criticism.
