Dingles Cottage

Dingles Cottage was wonderful, a lovely picturesque setting next to the church (and the neighbours therein were very quiet indeed).

A lovely quaint garden in which you could enjoy and watch the sunset. (More about this later). The cottage was in a good location with a handy pub a minute or so away, lots of lovely beaches and coastal walks also not far away. Some guests complained about the approach lane being narrow etc, sorry but this is Cornwall (get used to it), which has hundreds of miles of narrow and sometimes unmade roads. No motorways here folks! Two small niggles:- 1. The advertising photos show the garden looking resplendent with garden furniture and parasol, so why was this furniture locked away in the summerhouse and no key for access? The weather was extremely hot during our stay and with no furniture to enjoy the garden, we had to go out and buy some picnic chairs. 2. The shower controls in the downstairs shower were very stiff and need a lot of pressure to turn it off. Other than these two small points a lovey stay was had.

The house hadn't been cleaned when we turned up, it was 4pm on New Years Eve so a bit of a panic!

As not even any spare sheets to put on beds. However, John Bray managed to sort it by 6pm and a nice family turned up to change over. The double bed is seriously uncomfortable (notice someone else has commented as well) the mattress has sort of collapsed on one side. You feel like you are going to fall out of bed and bits poke into you. The twin room has no heating, the floor never seemed to warm up and I was constantly having to turn the thermostat back up to 27 degrees to try and get some heat. It was very cold and damp for my child, who kept waking up. We even tried to leave bathroom door open to try and get a bit of heat from towel rail! Finally, dog mess, there were a few piles outside the front. I think is the old dog from next door? If the heating and bed get sorted it's a great place, someone people may get spooked by the graveyard immediately next door, but it's a lovely cottage. The pub on the other side of the graveyard is brilliant, very child and dog friendly, full of locals and the food is very reasonably priced. I would stay again if the above gets fixed! We only stay in St Minver for convenience reasons (about 4 times a year) so perfect location.

First impressions when we arrived was it was a lovely little cottage, the track down to the cottage as a little over grown and bumpy so would not suit all vehicles.

The cottage had underfloor heating which sounds nice but the pump in the kitchen had a constant drone to it and we had to switch it off overnight so we could sleep. It does have a log burner but be mindful that no logs are provided. The bed in the main bedroom is large but rather uncomfortable, The mattress is old and lumpy and could do with turning occasionally or even replacing. The pillows were rather cheap and offered little support. I ended up sleeping in one of the single beds downstairs instead. The cottage is a little dirty and dusty and in some places there was mould on the walls, however it is out of season so it maybe due a spring clean. The kitchen could do with a refurb as peeling cupboards and some burn stains on the inside of the cupboard next to the washer. One of the white towels provided had yellow stains on it. Unlike most Sykes cottages that usually come with a little welcome pack such a milk, tea and coffee, this cottage did not provide anything so something to consider. However for all the negatives, The cottage was nice and if it had a spring clean I would stay again, the location of the was great and a short drive to most places and the pub in village did lovely food.

We love Dingles Cottage, this was our 4th visit there and we will stay again next year!

It is so convenient for Rock and Polzeath Beaches, our favourites. There is an inviting pub on the corner a couple minutes walk, an excellent pub restaurant 5 min drive away, the Pityme Inn, dog friendly or Paul Ainsworths’ pub restaurant, the mariners, 8 min drive, dog friendly on the ground floor. The only negatives are the private road that leads to the cottage is unmade and full of pot holes so don’t drive a sports car and the under floor heating has a mind of its own so turn it off when going out, or you will be flinging all the windows open even in December! However love this cottage next to a 13 century creepy church, but we will go back again it’s beautiful

We’ve just spent a lovely week at Dingles, very clean, great location and well equipped.

Clearer directions to find the cottage would have been helpful, particularly with regards to the single track private road. I imagine it could be tricky to find at night, but otherwise we highly recommend.

I should have read the feedback!

The driveway to the property needs trimming as it scratches the car being so narrow. If you like living with spiders you will love it here. The house is clean, tidy and well kept. A hoover and dust of spider webs would be appreciated for us that don’t like to share accommodation with the long legged critters. Beautiful cottage in idyllic location, close to Cornwall’s finest

The access to the cottage was horrable.

Every time we had take this way we fear to damage our car. Normally this is unacceptable. the cottage was cozy and fully equipped.

Very unhappy.

We left a carrier bag of clothing worth over £100 in the bedroom. On contacting Sykes and getting phonecall back we were told that the bag had been put in the bin and disposed of, presumably by the cleaners. Can they not distinguish between clothes and rubbish? Our fault for forgetting it but this is very poor customer care.

I like this property but the track to access it has deteriorated since our last visit.

For this reason I will not be using this accommodation again.

This was our second stay.

The cottage is very warm and comfortable. It has plenty of character with everything you need for a comfortable stay. There are shops a few minutes drive away for milk and coffee, tea, general groceries. There is also a fab bakery which is open out of season. The area is very peaceful. The beaches and coastal walks are stunning. We would book again.

A very generously sized holiday cottage with more than adequate living space for 4 people (We stayed as a couple) so felt very spoilt.

All the creature comforts you could possibly want even for an extended stay and the house was presented beautifully and extremely clean. Dingles is conveniently located near a number of attractions with Fish n Chips in Port Isaac on a sunny lunchtime being the highlight of our stay! Shopping is a breeze with Wadebridge being just 5 miles away with all the large name supermarkets etc. Would highly recommend this property.

I have stayed Dingle cottage twice previously and have reported the fact that when it rains water drips through the ground floor shower room light fitting!

It is still not being addressed and also the neighbour with black dog continuously has a poo in the front and even back garden, which is very unpleasant, I love the cottage as I have now stayed here three times and I know you are on the market for sale but this does not excuse the reason for maintaining the property which you are earning rental income from. I have emailed both Sykes and yourself directly with no response.! Which in itself is unacceptable from somebody paying to stay in your cottage! being an estate agent myself I do hope your current agent let prospective purchases know that your roof leaks! I wish you all the best but won’t be staying here again, as it is clear that neither you or Sykes are interested!

Lovely cottage and all important things were clean I.

e. bed linen, kitchen, bathrooms but quite a few cobwebs waving to welcome us! There was a leak in downstairs shower room and John Bray reacted within couple of hours had 2 people round - I was impressed with the efficient, polite and acceptable resolution. Neither front or back gardens are dog proof and neighbours dog tends to poo in the front garden. We would revisit as cottage, area etc are lovely

"A charming cottage in a picturesque area.

However, upon arrival, we were unpleasantly greeted by dog waste on the front lawn. Once inside, we found all the rooms to be extremely dirty, with old food still on the floor, an abundance of dust, cobwebs throughout the house, and a strong odour of stale urine in all the bathrooms. It took us a good couple of hours to clean the cottage ourselves! After a few days, our youngest child started to cough and complain of a tight chest, likely due to the dampness in the cottage. We had to turn on the underfloor heating to try to dry out the cottage, which made it extremely uncomfortable on hot days. Although there were some positive aspects (Good utilities, comfortable sofa, and beds and a nice garden at the back of the cottage) the negatives, unfortunately, overshadowed them. Sykes/Bray should consider hiring a proper cleaning contractor, as this situation greatly diminished our holiday experience."

The property was very nice and we really enjoyed our stay there.

Comfortable beds, lovely big lounge and lovely kitchen with a nice size of a garden. The only thing that was not so great is the check out time was way too early and it would be nice to have few simply things like oil, salt and pepper, but otherwise everything else was lovely.

We loved staying at dingles cottage it was very peaceful and lots of room there was only 2 of us but four people would still have had plenty of room .

We didn't use part of house as had down stairs bedroom and shower which we didn't use .As had lovely bedroom and big bathroom upstairs with a bath and shower. There was only one thing which didn't mater too much as we were out most of the time including going to local pubs to eat but I tried to use hot plates on oven and they didn't seem to heat up .

We had a fabulous week at Dingles Cottage as a family of 2 adults and 2 children with pooch.

The cottage was very comfortable and location beautiful. It was a good base to explore and close to our favourite places Port Isaac, Rock, Padstow and Trebarwith Strand. The local pub was shut but we had access to the park dean for shop if we needed anything, play area and pub. The church is mesmerising and the setting is very peaceful. The garden and summerhouse were pleasant. The only things we thought could improve the cottage are a hairdryer, tv set up(we didn’t bother and just watched iplayer!) and 2 gates on the garden so it was enclosed for the dog. We would 100% recommend it.

We struggled for half an hour to open the key safe.

The property is delightful, warm and welcoming and clearly it’s renovation is of a high standard and tastefully decorated and equipped.

Love this cottage, this is our second stay, the location between Rock and Polzeath is perfect.

You need remove the reference to the pub as it is currently closed down and was in our last stay in November as well. The only issue we had was on a day of very heavy rain, water was dripping from the light in the ground floor shower room. I will book this again for later in the year

Hi the heated towel rail in the shower room doesn’t work, there are cobwebs that are months old, but the biggest issue was the underfloor heating that even if you turned off, was still pumping so we needed to open the living room windows in November as we found it too hot!

The location other than scary beside the church and grave stones was perfect, 5 mins to Rock with a ferry to Padstow, 10 mins to Polzeath and excellent food at the Pittyme Inn Rock or Oyster Catcher in Polzeath. Mawgan Porth Beach is amassing as is the Merrymoor Inn. Cornwall just rocks.

We chose Dingles Cottage as it ticked all the boxes we needed, especially having a downstairs bedroom with en suite.

The upstairs bedroom and bathroom were very spacious. Whilst the bath had a shower head attachment, there is no stand-up shower upstairs, only one downstairs. The cottage is a delightful stone building with an extension. The main body of the cottage is lovely and equipped to a high standard, with quality goods and furnishings from Joseph Joseph, Royal Worcester fine bone china and Marks & Spencer to name a few. The two sofas were the comfiest we have sat on at any holiday rental! The cottage was clean and tidy when we arrived. The cottage is tucked away down a private drive and is in a very quiet area. Torches are a must if you go out after dark! One of the neighbours was very friendly. At no stage during our stay were we cold as the heating ran efficiently. Sadly, there was often a smell of oil from the heating, especially in the porch and sometimes in the kitchen. The garden is quite private but is open on both sides to the front of the house and driveway, so is not secure if you take a dog. One of the local dogs was spotted occasionally in the back garden! The downstairs bedroom is clearly suffering from a damp issue: the smell of mould / damp was very strong and the walls around the heads of the beds were covered in black mould. There were no headboards on the beds so pillows rested on these damp walls. Over the course of the five days we were there, the mould exacerbated breathing difficulties in the guest sleeping in that room. This is clearly an issue which needs resolving with some sense of urgency. Whilst we were there, we discovered a leak in the downstairs shower room, which initially we thought was from the toilet, having read previous reviews which mentioned a leaking toilet. The maintenance team came out later on in the same day as we reported it, but could find no leak. We were told to not use it as we had an upstairs bathroom, which clearly wasn’t an option for someone with mobility issues! So we had to continue using that en suite! For a couple of days, all seemed fine but then on Tuesday we discovered that the leak was coming through the light fitting and dripping onto the floor when it was raining. We rang the office who got someone out to look at it straight away as clearly water and electricity do not mix. The maintenance team decided that a roofer was needed and went away. The owner had to be contacted before the issue could be resolved. There was no bucket or similar in which to catch the drips, nor any floor mop to wipe the floor dry. We began to feel unsafe in the cottage as the rain was forecast to get much worse with a named storm due to cover the area on Thursday. We curtailed our holiday on Wednesday, informing the local office that we were leaving, with our reasons. We were told that someone would be in touch in the next day or two. It is now a week later and I have still not heard back from Sykes / John Bray, apart from them asking me for photos of the issues. These two issues, which were clearly fairly major, were such a shame as the rest of the cottage was perfect for us. We would have loved to have stayed the full week but just didn’t feel safe anymore with water coming through the light fitting and running the risk of slips and falls on the wet stone floor, especially at night.

A beautiful property in an idyllic location.

Warm, comfortable and very peaceful. We wouldn’t hesitate to return. A guest book would be a great addition and give the cottage a more ‘loved’ feel. However some thoughts which don’t detract from the cottage but may help if you are visiting. Familiarise yourself with the location as there are no signs and it is along a very narrow private drive. There is no welcome pack, and no ‘left overs’ in terms of salt/pepper etc. so pack everything. There are ample pots/pans/utensils but no instruction book for the oven which would have been useful. If you plan to make use of the log burner, you will need to take/purchase supplies as nothing provided. These are all minor points and don’t detract from the cottage itself but could make a beautiful property, outstanding.

We thought that the cottage was perfect, we loved the location and really enjoyed our stay.

We would love to book again for next year.

Lovely cosy and comfortable cottage.

We would certainly stay again if visiting the area. Cottage generally well equipped but lacked a few essential items ie tea towels, oven gloves, hair dryer. Also there were only two dishwasher tablets provided (probably left by another guest) and no washing powder. We did ask the management company for tea towels on our arrival but they didn't arrive as promised so we bought one ourselves instead.

9am checkout is very early if you are expecting customers to remove linen and have dishes washed before customers leave.

Doesn’t leave much time for breakfast when you are on holiday.

I had a really great week at the very well equipped cottage on my own with my dog.

It was very peaceful and the double bed was SO comfortable. The front and back gardens are lovely and I used the table and chairs from the summerhouse to sit outside. The house seems much bigger on the inside - so it felt very spacious. I arrived quite late on the Friday night (my fault!) but it would have been useful to have had more specific directions (to direct me down the lane towards the church). Wouldn’t have been an issue in the daylight as I could have seen the church’s steeple! Having stayed a lot in and around the general area over the years - it would have been a nice touch to have had a little ‘welcome pack’ - maybe some milk, teabags etc - nothing fancy. Also there was no loo paper in the bathroom downstairs - not a disaster though!

We have just completed an 11 night stay at Dingles cottage and we really enjoyed the cottage.

My daughter was really happy having an on suite. The cottage was really clean and had everything we needed for our home stay. There is also access to the holiday park which has a shop and facilities to amuse the kids if you need. If we were to stay in the area again we would have no issue in choosing The cottage again.

When we booked the property?

It should of stated the check in and check out times. You would presume that they would be standard with a a check in around 3-4 which there was and a check out of 10-11. Instead it was a check out at 9.30 on a Sunday which should of been stated at the time of booking. When I asked if this could be extended even by 30mins I was told no, really not great service. The cleanliness was not great either, there was cobwebs & dust everywhere and stains on the bedsheets. I appreciate it is a old property and there will be the odd cobweb but the cottage had clearly not been cleaned properly. It did not smell great either. It was much more dated than portrayed in the advert. Lovely location and beds were comfortable.

Another wonderful stay at Dingles Cottage.

Absolutely love the new sofas and rug. Just a gorgeous tranquil location. Really enjoyed the church bells ringing during HM King Charles III's Coronation.

Lovely cottage, in a great location!

Loved the cottage, looking at earlier feedback the owner has clearly taken positive steps to address those points raised.

A great character cottage, well-equipped and warm downstairs. A welcome starter pack of logs/firelighter/kindling would have been appreciated. A couple of minor issues were swiftly addressed and did not negatively impact our stay. Fantastic quiet location (it was March), close to the coast and also inland walks but set within neat, dog friendly grounds. A great, welcoming pub' nearby with a good menu. I would certainly come again!

The cottage is lovely and in a beautiful spot but there are some faults.

The stable doors at the front need repairing and it is very hard to open the bottom door. Advertised with an electric fire (not supplied) also advertised with a log burner. There are no tools to be able to use the log burner. The glass doors in the dining area were really draughty. We found it very hard to keep warm. There were a lot of cobwebs, over the cooker hood, walls and the one wardrobe supplied, also loads of dead insects in the wardrobe. Very hard to initially find the cottage in the dark, it would have been helpful to know it was along a private road. The road was full of deep puddles and very hard to get our bikes through. Just a postcode doesn't pinpoint the cottage. We also found the bed and sofas uncomfortable. The bed is very hard and the sofa I struggled to sit on and unfortunately it gave me sciatica.

Great house, much more spacious than we expected.

Had everything we needed for a family visit. Kitchen well equipped - we managed to bake a cake and cook a roast with no issues. Easy to book and check in etc as always with Sykes and John Bray. Only criticism is the mattress in the main bedroom needs replacing, I’ve seen on other feedback that it has been replaced recently, if it has it needs doing again with a better quality mattress. It had two dips on each side and a lump in the middle. We turned it which helped but really needs replacing. We’re wanting to book again for February but would be looking for assurance that the mattress has been dealt with.

We're so thrilled with Dingles Cottage!

The cleanliness was brilliant and the facilities excellent. The furnishings are modern and comfortable. I don't feel the photographs properly do it justice as it seems more spacious and light in real life. We have stayed in cottages before in this coastal area and have to say that this one has been our favourite. We will definitely book again. Thank you so much to the owners, for sharing your beautiful property!

Another lovely stay in Cornwall and in particular Dingles Cottage in St Minver.

A lovely, quaint, traditional stone cottage tucked away down a quiet lane behind the church. This was our second stay at the cottage and its beginning to show a little bit of wear. As someone's mentioned before, the bathroom door scrapes on the floor and the double mattress isn't the most comfortable, and perhaps it's in need of some TLC and updating in a few areas (a more thoroughclean before arrivals too). However, this doesn't detract from how cosy the cottage feels and its convenience to all the major tourist areas. Will we stay there again....? Yes, definitely!!

The quality of the appliances and equipment was very good.

The cottage was in a lovely location, and very peaceful, with a lovely secluded little garden, with very nice garden furniture. Our only negative was the 5ft bed, the mattress was past its best and would benefit from replacing, and I would recommend one of the more modern ones.

Cottage wasn’t clearly identified, unsure it was correct cottage.

Outside area around the bins was untidy ( old door ). Large cobwebs around some windows ,summerhouse needed cleaning. An Ant problem in downstairs shower room. Upstairs bathroom door not closing properly and floors getting damaged. Other than these issues we had a lovely stay in Cornwall. Hope this is helpful to you.

Had a great stay in Dingles Cottage which l thought was a fabulous property in a good location, it was well equipped with everything you could need.

Hopefully a return stay in the future

Although in a lovely setting the road access was full of pot holes.

The second bedroom would have been cramped for 2 adults. There was a musty smell due to the inefficiency of the extractor fan and the towel-rail/ heater not working. In addition I had to deal daily with the ants, obviously nesting behind the shower wall! The rest of the house and garden was comfortable with everything we needed. The end of holiday is partly spoilt by the company's rules of vacating by 9am !!

It was everything we hoped it would be.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful location , adequately furnished and clean, however the property does suffer from dampness and black mould.

We really enjoyed our stay at Dingles Cottage as always. The new arrangements with bedding were a real bonus....so lovely to arrive and find the beds all made up, this really made a difference. The welcome food package was also appreciated but it would be useful to know before arrival what is to be provided so that we do not "double up". Our favourite restaurant is Nathan Outlaws Fish Kitchen in Port Isac, we go there every year and it never disappoints. Also all their food is gluten free ..even the battered things which is good for me because I am coeliac.
