Sandy Lodge Rock

We had a lovely stay at Sandy Lodge, the house was just perfect for our family Christmas together.

The shower curtain in the annexe was very dirty.

Pictures and mirrors left popped against walls in bedrooms. Some areas could do with updating. To many personal items belonging to the owner. Particularly photos.

Well situated property, perfect for family with young children with space outside to play.

We rented Sandy Lodge for my husband’s birthday with some friends.

It was very comfortable with plenty of cooking equipment, lovely beds and very cosy. We have a caravan nearby in the summer so we know the area well and it was just what we needed. We took logs down for the fire but the house was so warm we didn’t use it and mainly stayed in the kitchen. The garden was lovely and I expect in the summer would be a great asset and the cottage is in a good position. Altogether it was a very homely atmosphere and everyone really loved the house. Thank you.

The best thing about this property is the location, which is wonderful and so convenient for everything in Rock.

It is our second year here but sadly my description last year as “shabby chic” would now have to be more shabby than chic. The property was definitely cleaner than last year and didn’t smell so musty when we arrived but the garden cushions were still very stained and despite lots of fresh air during our stay, the smell was definitely back in the downstairs bedrooms & lounge after a couple of days. We didn’t open the room above the garage this year but last year the smell was so strong in there we decided no one would want to sleep there. We were impressed by John Bray getting maintenance out the same day we reported a broken blind in the bathroom & a locked window in a bedroom that we couldn’t open. We also couldn’t get an internet connection but by the time maintenance had arrived, my husband had realised a key plug was pulled out- it’s probably the cleaner because it’s the most accessible plug for the hoover to reach everywhere downstairs & we remembered that the same thing happened last year.

There was a lot we loved about this property!

Location and size of the property was perfect- outdoor space was great! Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. But- it was rather cluttered- lots of personal nick nacks and photos- there was stuff everywhere! This detracted from the beauty of the property. There were also cob webs everywhere!! It must be impossible to clean with so much stuff everywhere. I think more information is needed re hot water- we struggled for the first 2 days and even when we boosted it on the timer it meant the showers were hot but the bath was only ever Luke warm- this would not be ideal for a family with younger children. The dishwasher looks like it has seen better days- though worked well- The sofas in the lounge at the back/by the kitchen are extremely worn, marked and not very comfortable. If the weather has been better we would happily have sat outside on the lovely garden furniture but this was not to be! The carpets and rugs are marked in places too. The door to the downstairs small double was off its hinge - almost- it meant the door had to stay open and my elderly mum had to walk around it- but not much room to do this! I emailed Sykes on day one to flag this up but did say it wasn’t an urgent matter- I received no reply so not sure if it will be dealt with before the next occupants. Overall we had a lovely stay but the house needs some attention- we have stayed in quite a few Sykes properties and this is the first time I’ve ever given mixed feedback.

The house was perfect - extremely cosy, beautifully decorated and had everything we needed including a very well-equipped kitchen. It’s situation is also ideal for walks to the beach, and great restaurants and pubs! We would highly recommend it to any groups of friends or families - it is a great house to rent!

Wonderful stay in Rock for a few days in September this year.

The house is in the perfect location, in terms of walking to local shops, then further on, for the longer, stunning coastal hikes. The house is beautifully designed, well appointed, super comfortable and very well equipped for cooking and hosting. All in all the perfect Cornwall retreat

We had a wonderful week at Sandy Lodge with our children and grandparents.

The house is incredibly spacious, and having two separate living areas worked brilliantly, giving the children somewhere to play while the adults could relax. The grandparents especially loved having the bedroom above the garage with its own en-suite, as it meant they could enjoy being with the family while still having a bit of peace and privacy at the end of the day. The location is fantastic. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting out in the garden when we were at the house, although most days were spent on the beach, which is an easy 10-minute walk through the fields. Our dogs absolutely loved it too. The house is really well equipped and felt comfortable and relaxed for a family holiday. We never felt worried about the children making themselves at home, and it was the perfect base for exploring Rock. Being so close to the shops was a real bonus, and we definitely made far too many trips to Fee’s Food for coffee and treats! We all had a fantastic holiday and would happily return to Sandy Lodge again, especially if we’re lucky enough to have the same glorious weather.

We’ve stayed at Sandy Lodge a few times now and absolutely love coming down to the Cornish coast, but this was the first time we booked for two whole weeks and I’m so glad we did.

For the first week we had the whole family together, including the kids and their partners, and then my husband and I left them to enjoy the house on their own for the second week. They had the most amazing weather and absolutely loved it. Sandy Lodge really works for a big family. The kids rather took over the double sitting room at the front, while we were perfectly happy in the snug area off the kitchen! With the weather being so lovely, though, we spent most of our time outside. We had all the doors and windows open, barbecued in the garden most evenings and walked the dogs down to the beach. One of the things we really like about the house is that although it has everything you need, it still feels relaxed and homely. You don’t feel as though you have to tiptoe around – you can properly settle in and enjoy yourselves, which is exactly what we did. The location is brilliant too. The kids loved being able to walk to the pub and we made the most of the restaurants within walking distance, including Four Boys down by the sea. We came home feeling completely relaxed and are already looking forward to our next visit. Our only little suggestion would be a few more sun loungers/deckchairs for the back garden -particularly if we’re lucky enough to have weather like this again!

We’ve just had a fantastic two weeks at Sandy Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The house was clean, warm and comfortable, with plenty of space to sit and relax and very comfortable beds. There was always plenty of hot water, and the heating was easy to use on the few chilly evenings we had. The kitchen was particularly well equipped everything we needed for cooking and eating at home was there. The location is excellent. With a bakery, butcher’s, shops and lovely pubs and restaurants in the village, we could easily have spent the whole fortnight without needing to go further afield. The spacious, fenced-in garden was brilliant for the dogs, and being able to walk straight out of the garden and down the lane to Porthilly beach was a real bonus. Rock Beach is also within walking distance, with the ferry taking you straight across to Padstow for its shops and restaurants. There are lovely walks on Brea Hill with beautiful views, surfing nearby at Polzeath, and Wadebridge is within easy reach for shopping and days out. Sandy Lodge has the charm of a Cornish fishing cottage, and staying there felt like being at home rather than in a holiday rental. It was such an enjoyable, relaxing holiday, and I’d happily return. We were very sorry to leave.
