Overlooking the Cornish sea in the idyllic fishing village of Port Isaac, The Golden Lion is a beautiful 18th century pub full of original character and charm. Home of the Bloody Bones Bar which boasts a smuggling tunnel leading down onto a causeway on the beach, the pub has a rich seafaring history for guests to unravel as they enjoy a cask ale and hearty meal in front of our open fires. Our selection of drinks is mostly Cornish, from Ales to Gins and to Rum.
A culinary delight awaits you at The Dining Room, where even the homemade clotted cream butter served with the delicious freshly baked bread is prepared on the premises. Since 2010, local couple Fred and Donna have been providing exceptional attention to detail in both the gorgeous food and the relaxed yet attentive service – prepare for a treat and time to enjoy it. The a la carte menu uses fresh, seasonal, local ingredients and the amuse bouche, petit fours and extensive wine list all add to the occasion.
A hidden gem, The Mowhay is a delightful café by day and an atmospheric, vibrant restaurant by night. Close to Daymer Bay and Polzeath beaches, this appealing barn conversion has a wonderfully relaxed vibe with cheerful and friendly service, and a sunny garden to enjoy local, fresh and seasonal food al fresco in fine weather. Expect daily specials including fillet steaks, Porthilly mussels, and fish dishes. Be sure to book as evenings can be busy in high season. (Vegan and vegetarian available on request)
Head over to Padstow to tuck into some of the best seafood from Cornish shores including oysters, lobster and mussels, whilst soaking up the atmosphere of a working local fishmongers and enjoying some of Ricks favourite wines. You can also visit their The Seafood Restaurant, Rick Stein’s Café, Stein’s Fish & Chips and St Petroc’s Bistro.
If youre not that into your seafood, The Angry Anchovy Pizzeria in Port Isaac offers a tasty alternative. Their fresh homemade pizzas are made with locally sourced ingredients, combined with sun ripened tomatoes and Italian flour for that genuine flavour experience (gluten free options also available). Sample their moreish Italian desserts along with specialist charcuterie. They also have a fully licensed bar serving Tarquin’s gin and Moonshine whiskey among others. You can even treat your pooch to a doggy pizza of their own!
Barnaby’s is a cosy and relaxed restaurant situated in the heart of Padstow. Set in a former Victorian tearoom, this stylish eatery is located just up the road from sister restaurant, “Prawn on The Lawn”. Another proud creation by Katie and Rick Toogood, Barnaby’s offers a divine menu built around small plates and sharing platters including locally sourced seafood, meat and vegetarian options that fuse unique flavours with a Middle Eastern influence. Enjoy a top-notch cocktail and wine menu as you tuck into authentic wood-fired delights.
Across the road from the beach, The Rock Inn is a lively, modern restaurant/pub with a fabulous south-facing balcony; a lovely alfresco spot to have a drink or a meal with a great view across the estuary to Padstow. Serving consistently tasty food, this is particularly good for families, featuring traditional pub meals plus excellent specials that always include local seafood. Portions are very generous; be assured you will leave very satisfied! Dogs on a lead are welcome here too, making Rock Inn a convenient pitstop for keen walkers of the nearby coastal path.
Head to Baby’s Bay at the north end of Polzeath beach to discover The Taco Boys North Cornwall’s latest foodie offering, serving a mouth-watering selection of locally inspired Tacos, alongside their Vegan Chunky Chilli and famous Kernow Fried Chicken. Open every day on the beach from Easter, 10am-10pm, expect great flavours if their crispy duck taco served in a gluten-free Corn Tortilla, with nigella seed slaw and hoisin sauce (pictured) is anything to go by.
