“We had a brilliant holiday at Surf’s Edge.”

The location is excellent, less than five minutes’ walk from the beach and shops. The view from the balcony is amazing looking across the rooftops to the headland above the beach and on towards Stepper Point and Gulland Rock. The location is also good for walks, either out passed New Polzeath to Pentire point or round the coast to Daymer Bay and Rock. Some previous reviews have mentioned noise from building work and the area being the “scruffy end of Polzeath” but as of September 2025 the building work had finished and some of the nearest houses were anything but scruffy – very up-market! The accommodation was great, everything needed for the eight of us – the place would certainly have been fine for 10 but 12 might have been a squeeze. If anything, the pictures don’t do the house justice, it is clean, bright and comfortable. It’s clearly been revamped recently with some of the furniture replaced. There are now benches at the dining table allowing everyone to sit down, the bed in the main bedroom is new and comfortable and the outdoor table and chairs on the balcony are better than those shown. The ice dispenser on the big American style fridge freezer was a definite hit! The pictures on the walls and the other decorations are outstanding, obviously a lot of personal thought has gone into them. It all goes to make Surf’s Edge a home – if even for a week! – not just a place to sleep. Despite strong winds and heavy showers during our week (after the driest summer for years!) we were warm and comfortable. Definitely no gaps round the windows – in fact, no sash windows, just standard double glazed units in the main house. A bonus during our not so brilliant weather was the availably of a warm boiler room where wet suits could be hung up to dry. One issue to keep in mind was the noise of the rain on the glass roof of the conservatory in the annex – not good if you are a light sleeper. Being picky, there were just a couple of minor things we thought could be improved. Firstly, the lack of space to store food. There were no cupboards left empty to put food in, 8-10 people need lots of packets, tins, bottles, etc. Lots of kitchen equipment is great but maybe it could be reorganised to allow enough space for food? Secondly, the directions for finding the place could be updated. The road (track) up from the village now branches into new chalets at one place and up to new houses at another so it is not obvious which way to go to get to Surf’s Edge. Difficult in daylight, a nightmare if arriving after dark. All in all a lovely place to stay!

Downstairs, for the rest of your family the ground floor has three further bedrooms: a double with a glass door out to the garden, a twin overlooking the garden and bunk bedroom whose bed features two single bunks.

To top it off downstairs there is an impressive bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower and sunken bath for ultimate relaxation; the bath even features a jacuzzi setting to be able to spoil yourself even more.

For further accommodation, inside the same building through a door within the main entrance area you can head down the sets of stairs into the annexe which provides a great self-contained area of its own and offers a mezzanine double bedroom and bathroom featuring a bath and shower overhead.

Guests here can separate themselves when they wish and enjoy their own open-plan living space with a kitchen, dining area and sitting area with a TV; perfect for couples or grandparents searching for a retreat!

Once your return from your day out or if you prefer to spend the day relaxing, summer days can be enjoyed in your own enclosed garden, where you may dine alfresco and soak up the sun.

For a true break from the rush of modern life, here you can park up the car and leave it at the house while you explore on foot, a rare treat while on holiday.

After checking the surf from the house in the morning, keen early birds can grab their surfboard and head straight to the beach to catch the best waves in the area, safe in the knowledge you can return to wash off sand in the heated external shower afterwards!

The village of Polzeath boasts small shops to provide your daily groceries as well as an art gallery, surf store and boutique clothing store to potter in.

Pull on your walking boots at Surf's Edge and take the coastal path which you can join just around the corner from the front door and trek out to the National Trust Pentire Point for panoramic views of the Camel Estuary.

Walking south from the beach you can take the path over the cliffs to Greenaway Beach for rock pooling or follow the walk along to Daymer Bay; another family friendly beach with gentler, lapping waves.

Finish up back at Polzeath to indulge in a variety of eateries, including The Waterfront, Cracking Crab, and Oystercatcher and watch the stunning sunsets from Polzeath Beach.

The close-by fishing village of Rock hosts a number of watersports and dunes to walk in, while the town of Wadebridge nearby provides retail therapy and local amenities.

Be sure to catch the foot ferry from Rock to the hub of Padstow; from here you can visit the National Lobster Hatchery, hike the coast to St George's Cove, or bring your bikes to explore the Camel Trail.
