“Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location with great scenery and peace & quiet.”

My only negative is the super king bed was very firm and I found it difficult to sleep on but I made up for it with a nap during the day! Would love to return but can’t find the cottage listed with Sykes going forward?

“The view from the cottage was absolutely beautiful.”

We were a family of four and it was a struggle to dry our towels and swim wear as the airer is way too small. Definitely need a washing line/rotary airer in the garden as we were down the beach every day. We enjoyed the games that were provided. Port Isaac is absolutely beautiful and will be looking to return again. Also the biscuits and wine were a lovely gesture. Thank you Angie

“An excellent choice for a Port Isaac holiday.”

Very clean and well equipped holiday home. Great location, 5 mins walk into the center of the village. Excellent views of the bay from the main bedroom and living area. Large, pleasant patio area at rear of house, wonderful if the sun is shining. Parking for one vehicle only but a good car park just up the road. All in all highly recommended.

Has a lovely patio which was much bigger than expected and was a suntrap and great to eat meals on. The parking was tricky but then there are few properties with parking available . Definitely recommend

“We really liked this property.”

It was cozy yet spacious and very comfortable. It was clean and tidy and equipped to a high standard. Location is excellent although we can imagine the climb up from the bottom of the village might be challenging for less able bodied guests. Parking space could also be a challenge! We have a Mercedes GLA so the space was fine as we could fit the bonnet under the deck, but larger vehicles would struggle. All in all we were very happy with our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending the property to others.

“Castaway is a lovely property with good views and a super courtyard garden to enjoy your morning brew in.”

A little warning about parking would be nice - it is perfectly usable but as previous reviews have said, a little 'interesting' to get out of. Also agree with previous comments re. sofa and king size mattress - neither are particularly comfortable and replacements would definitely improve the cottage (particularly mattress).

“We love staying at Castaway, it is a beautiful location with gorgeous sea views.”

This is the reason we have stayed here for the last five years. Our observations are as follows; it would benefit from a larger more comfortable sofa in the living area, the mattress on the main bed could also do with replacing. We had two toilet rolls for a week, left in the cottage, which is not enough for a two week stay; on the last stays there were a box of tissues in the bedroom, there wasn’t this year. Well equipped, nice garden. Getting out of parking space a bit challenging! The only thing that stopped me awarding five stars was the very hard king size mattress which meant I did not sleep well and got up aching. Otherwise a lovely stay in this much loved village.

“Really beautiful cottage with stunning views …well equipped and cosy.”

However, there was a horrible smell in the master bedroom, coming from the en suite we are assuming…and the towel rail in the main bathroom wasn’t switched on and there was no way we could locate the switch as we think it was behind a locked cupboard.Looking back at past reviews we can see the smell was mentioned before…this really needs fixing as it marred what was a lovely stay.

“The hot water was a big issue, when our son stayed at weekend there was only enough for one of them, even in the morning still no warm water for a shower.”

More hot water needed at all times. Also there was a smell in en-suite half way through week which was very unpleasant. The bed felt very hard to begin with in double room, but to be fair we did get used to it. After saying this we may be back as the views and cosines of the cottage was sublime, if issues were fixed, it would be second to none. However parking is not suitable for large cars and only 1 space.

We loved the impressive sea views from the living-room and main bedroom, and the back garden was surprisingly large with its two patios. The furnishings and decor were very tasteful and amenities were excellent. The cottage was warm and cosy despite the freezing weather.

“A wonderful stay - the cottage was beautiful and in a superb location.”

The photos of the garden don’t do it justice - we hadn’t realised it would be so big, a real bonus. The bottle of wine and fudge that was left out for us was a lovely thought, thank you. We really couldn’t fault it at all, other than the shower room was small, and it was a bit of a squeeze in the shower, but that’s just a niggle. We had an amazing week and will definitely be back.

“Lovely cottage and location.”

The views were wonderful. I could sit and watch the sea all day!! It was very warm and cosy. A bit tricky parking if you have a big car. Facilities in the cottage were great, but would have liked an instruction booklet to work the cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay and would definitely come back.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Castaway.”

With elevated views across the headland and sea, the house was beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, warm and cosy, and in a perfect situation for walking to the village and along the coast path. We appreciated the bottle of wine and box of fudge - a nice touch thank you. The only thing which may be an issue for some guests is that when we went in January, only a couple of shops to buy nicknacks and a co-op were open, there was just one place to buy takeaway coffee or ice cream, and all the pubs and restaurants were closed.

“Rated comfort down on the basis, that, as with many self-catering properties, there are aspects of tiredness; e.”

G. mattresses not all that comfortable refelcting that no process for the periodic turning of mattresses to even wear. Also, the cushion squabs for the settee felt were in need of replacement, seemed very worn and sunk low down which made it difficult to get out of on occaisions. Feel that the property description should refect: 1/ Whilst the main bedroom as an ensuite, it is very small, especially yhe shower tray, and 2/ Care needs to be taken when parking because of the overhang to the parking space and the steep incline of the parking space. Apart from the above, the property was excellent, a good location and the outside seating areas excellent for a relaxing holiday.

Castaway offers an extremely luxurious, beautifully appointed, holiday retreat for a family of four or a romantic getaway for two.

Enjoy watching the sunset from the patio with a cold drink before wandering down to the village to dine in one of the many delicious restaurants, of which two are run by celebrity chef Nathan Outlaw.

Castaway is a truly perfect holiday home for a relaxing and memorable break in popular Port Isaac on the North Cornwall coast.The immaculate ground floor offers an open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room and a glass door out to the terrace where the sunshine and patio furniture will entice you outside with your drinks and meals.

The sitting room area has elegant chairs and a sofa centred around a pretty fireplace where a wood burner will provide a warm welcome in all seasons.

The first floor has a king size four poster bed with en-suite shower room, sea and coastal views from the large window, family bathroom and a bright and cheerful twin bedroom overlooking the rear patio.Port Gaverne is a fabulous place to have a go at kayaking in the sheltered cove or swimming in the warmest months, and it's just a short walk away and lovely to take a picnic too.

The nearby cove of Port Quin is a few minutes drive away or if you fancy, a moderately strenuous cliff top walk.

Kayaking is good here too, or take a walk out to the stunning Doyden Castle, the location for the original Poldark series, which stands proudly on the headland.

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.
