“Sublime position and view, undoubtedly, especially with this gorgeous weather.”

Property needs a bit of TLC, especially loose slate on front steps, but mainly aesthetics - grouting of patio, paintwork of internal doors/frames, loose doors handles; just small things but lets down the appearance and from a 5-star rating. A daily issue with 7 of us staying was the poor drainage of both upstairs shower trays, having had to avoid flooding onto the floors. Would book again, hoping agent had responded to feedback.

“Excellent property in a lovely location with stunning views.”

Toilet seats upstairs needed repair as loose and one of the garden chairs was broken. However this did not ruin the holiday so just for heads up as minor issues stand out. Bushes could be reduced to enhance the wonderful view. Wonderful holiday.

“A beautiful house and setting.”

My only comment is that the emergency contact facility could be better. We had a leak from one bathroom to the kitchen, it was not very serious and did not leak if we did not use that bathroom. We called the 'emergency' number but were put through to answer machines and eventually got asked to fill in an online form. If this had been a real emergency it would have been a problem. Response service needs to improve in a real emergency.

“Lovely place to stay with great view of coast but a few things need attention for the money they are charging.”

Missing slate above back bedroom, en suite shower door comes open while showering, mould on ceiling in downstairs shower, rust & damp marks around kitchen window. Growth along driveway needs to be kept in check & as previous occupants have said cut the bloody hedge, doesn’t have to be the whole length just along the last 10 feet would be enough.

“Fluff on bathroom extraction vents making them clogged.”

Master bathroom door handles dangerously loose. (Reported it was repaired but it will not last) Leaking shower doors. Larger Panasonic Tv has no ariel installed so it’s totally useless (Reported but not repaired or addressed). Roof tile missing above master bedroom dripping in the area above the bedroom ceiling when it rains.(reported but again not addressed) Multiple Patio doors are openable some days and some days they get stuck? The interior kitchen to the outside door if closed impairs the outside door if fully open from being closed.( This can and did make a scary situation a holiday member was unable to secure the property so had to call another holiday member for help) Flies nesting over the inside high vaulted room windows. Hedge needs trimming by 2 feet at the one end in the winter and levelling off to the lower end to enable a beautiful sea view for the next season. 1 Garden patio chair is dangerously loose maybe waiting to be broken so can it be charged.(Gave up reporting rather have a holiday than be on What’s App messaging a robot.) Outside patio table and chairs filthy and covered with cob webs.( lack of cleaning, maybe leave a hard brush off for this or do a once a week brush off) WiFi code in the book and email is incorrect. Bins at the top are not clearly marked who are they for. Ironing board cover is a waste of time. Downstairs loo has no openable top window vents. A BBQ would be nice but we understand, maybe state this in the listing.(no available or BBQ allowed)

“Beautiful property and great views from the sun room, although as in other reviews the hedge being cut back would have made the view even more spectacular.”

Well equipped kitchen and beds really comfortable. Only niggle were the showers. The ensuite shower leaked at the bottom and floods the floor and the main bathroom shower is either freezing cold or scalding hot. Not a pleasant experience. The bath though was very nice and deep. We had a lovely week and find sykes properties excellent value for money.

“A great property for a family stay,clean and spacious.”

We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the downstairs areas which were bigger than the photos suggested. Open plan kitchen-dining room was a lovely space to get together. As others have said if they trimmed the front hedge the view would be improved, but there's still a lovely sea view from the upstairs windows. Co-op supermarket is a five minute walk away.

“Good property, well kept.”

Good views when you are out. Inside it was lovely and clean and well presented. Things that let it down: Hedges obstructing the sea view. Least could be done is get those hedges trimmed. Tight parking, again due to overgrown hedges it was a nightmare daily to drive car in and out.

“Beautiful setting.”

...we really love it here. Has everything you need within reason Except for a couple of decent deckchairs. It is starting to look a little tired....so could do with some money being spent to reinvigorate it. That being said we love it and what a location.

“Whilst we found the Signal Post in a great position we did have a few issues Outside front area paving slabs there are a few unstable, hedges could be reduced to improve the views, lack of outdoor lighting.”

The en-suite shower door does not close all shower traps need to be cleaned and cleared poor water pressure. On the cleanliness side we found a few dirty dishes in the cupboards, lots of cobwebs, and a couple of previous guests personal items. Property is looking a bit tired. On a positive note lots of space for our family of eight.

“Spacious property with plenty of downstairs rooms.”

Sadly limited view to sea as requires some hedge cutting!! TV set up needs updating (no smart tv), current TV screen very temperamental! Also just to note the back garden is fully enclosed for a dog but the front garden is not and this is where the sea views are (when you can actually see them) and the best outside seating area is.

“Access to the parking space is very tight - should be better explained.”

A number of tiles up to and on the patio are loose and potentially dangerous. That said, the location and sea view are wonderful and the view could be made even better with some judicious hedge trimming. Inside is mostly comfortable; outside furniture could be updated. The shower door in the en-suite needs fixing as does the towel rail in the downstairs shower room. Generally ok but not a premium listing.

“Property has a good enclosed rear garden, suitable for a dog, this should be stated in the listing.”

Beds are not good, mattresses need replacing with better quality pocket spring mattresses Bed linens are good and kitchen is well equipped. Cooker is a little old. Indoor furnishings are good and comfortable . Outdoor tables and chairs are old and in need of a deep clean. Better to replace them with more durable outdoor table & chairs. Hedge needs a trim to improve the view to the sea. Plants over hanging the drive need to be cut back to better allow cars to park. Adequate parking for 2 cars. Overall a very good house in an excellent location. We very much enjoyed our stay.

“Fantastic view.”

Over all pleased with accommodation but felt it was starting to look tired outside. Our main complaint was windows where very dirty inside and out. Utility room excellent Kitchen very good and well supplied Dining room loved the stone floor Lounges good Conservatory fantastic except for dirty windows Bedroom we're fine with comfortable beds and beautiful views at the front. Bathrooms clean Some paint work inside was worn and chipped Some of the carpets had stains Outside desperately needs painting and socket boards are starting to rot. We really enjoyed our holiday here and we're sad to leave. We found Jonn Brays an excellent firm.

“The four of us absolutely loved our stay and were very happy with signal post.”

If we had to make any suggestions at all, just to make it an absolutely perfect stay we would suggest the following. The hedge that you can see outside the sunroom … if it were cut just a foot shorter it would’ve been a much lovely view of the sunsets. Also, Offering only one trash bag for stays over one week would have been convenient as would have been having an extra roll of toilet tissue. The location is perfect. The views are stunning. The convenience of getting into the village was excellent. The furniture was comfortable and it was wonderful to have such spacious rooms.

“Loved it, for the location.”

I’ve been coming to Port Isaac for years and this has got to be the 8th holiday property I’ve stayed in. Location and bonus of parking is a plus what this property lacks is the personal touches, is it too much to have soap in every bathroom and salt/pepper? Out of all the places I’ve stayed I’ve never had to do a shop for the basics in the Co-op when arriving. A 7 hour journey and you can’t even make a tea. Disappointing.

“A lovely property in a beautiful part of the country.”

But for the money paid it would have been nice to have a welcome pack on arrival even a bottle of milk in the fridge would have been appreciated. After traveling for 8+ hours in the car you don't really want to go back out to get shopping. Also the double mattress in the front bedroom is the single most uncomfortable bed any of us have ever slept in! It wants to be thrown! Nobody wanted to sleep in it. It would also have been nice to have been left with more than one toilet roll, one black bag and one dishwasher tablet again for the money paid you would expect a little more.

“5 of us stayed here for a week the end of June 2023, great location and lovely views of the sea.”

Beautiful house and setting. Driveway is a little tight to get down, but I managed to reverse 2 medium sized cars and park them on the drive with a bit of help. Beds are comfy and pillows to, the bathrooms are very nice. On the photos you don't see that they have now put a brand new upstairs bathroom (not the blue one shown) and more modern. House is clean, very spacious and bright. I would say it could do with a TV in the veranda part as this is where we spent most of our time as you get the lovely views of the sea. Location is a little walk away from the centre of Port Isaac (not much to eat round there if you don't like fish mind). But lovely little village to walk around. (Chip shop is a amazing). Would come back again in a heart beat!!

“Looking at previous feedback I was a little apprehensive about staying here.”

And I was even more concerned when we arrived to check in at 4.00pm and was told by the cleaner she would be another 30-45 mins. I was not impressed especially as 4.00pm is already a late check-in. However, I was pleasantly surprised when we finally managed to check in. Firstly there was a lovely welcome pack of goodies which was unexpected and made us feel very welcome. I found the property clean and had everything we needed. Yes there were some areas that could have been cleaner, for example the gaps between the cooker and the en-suite could have been swept a little more, but I really am picking at things. The house was comfortable, spacious and had lovely views. The location was perfect and we will definitely be staying here again. My biggest grumble was the parking, it was a very narrow space and reversing in and out of it every time was an extra stress that we didn’t need on holiday. You could not fit two cars in. It would have been better if we could have access to parking at castle rock.

“We really loved this property - very welcoming and with a wonderful view.”

Couldn't be in a better position! However, the parking situation is a little challenging - not with the small area (this was mentioned in the details), but the lack of turning area and so it meant reversing out. Not for the faint hearted! There were some little things that we feel need to be looked at with regards to the property: The fan in the ensuite isn't working The ensuite needs a towel rail The floor in the ensuite could do with upgrading Both tin openers don't work properly and made it impossible to open a tin There was no garlic press, only a part of one Missing key for the door into the utility room from outside Baking trays would be useful Not all lamps were working - had to replace a bulb Not all outside lights work The dishwasher is missing wheels on the lower rack These are only small things, however, they do make a difference.

“The house was spacious and well located but not very cosy.”

It was a bit worn and lacked welcoming touches. We couldn't get hot water from 2 of the showers the first night and had post walk cold showers before bed. We did eventually get hot water from one but the downstairs shower didn't have hot water at any time which was not great as we were waling the SW coast path every day. There was no welcome pack of instructions and we couldn't work out the microwave the first day. Pots and pans were in a big jumble and one was dirty. The cling film and foil was very useful. My friends rent out properties for holidays and were not impressed in general and felt it was rather unloved and basic.

“The property was in a beautiful location with stunning views.”

The equipment provided was comprehensive and when we raised some issues ie a plug missing from the sink and the ironing board broken they were quickly resolved. It was a such a shame that the windows were really dirty both inside and out - to the extent that I cleaned the bedroom and rear patio doors which were really filthy. The sink and shower plug holes in the main bathroom were really slow draining and blocked with hair, despite being reported this was not fixed. We purchased some domestic plug hole unblocker to remedy the problem ourselves, which worked. Also the coat hook panel in the utility room fell off the wall, again reported but not fixed albeit there was plenty of other hanging space. Generally the property needed a deep clean as it was looking tired and very grubby around the windows and doors. The shower in the en-suite was very low pressure. However as stated earlier this was a lovely property and we really enjoyed our stay overall it was equipped with everything you could need.

“We had to re wash the tea towels as they smelt awful.”

We had to clean the dishwasher as it was blocked by grease and debris and not washing the pots. There was quite a lot of debris on the floors and sofa’s, looked as though it had not been hoovered. Some of the furniture was very dated and worn. Beautiful views, plenty of parking space for 2 cars. Felt as though it needed some TLC and a pressure washer on the outside areas! It could be made beautiful if it was cleaned properly with updated furniture but we were disappointed considering the cost of the property.

“Our fourth visit to this property with our immediate family.”

Excellent property with everything that was needed. We stayed over the Christmas period and were very pleased with the tree,decorations etc.. Hope to return in the future. Have seen one or two poorish remarks from others who have stayed at the house in the past- think they must be referring to another property as we love this property.

“The property was generously described and cleverly photographed.”

In reality it felt a bit like a student house. The kitchen equipment and some of the furniture looked like it had come from a charity shop. Mismatched glasses and chipped crockery are not what you would expect for the price we paid. The old faded kettle stopped working and fused the electrics one morning. The sofas are all covered with the bedspreads that were on the beds for the photos, and some of the cushions are tied on with old shoe laces. One positive was the bed linen and towels which were all white and looked new. The parking is not really usable unless you have a very small car. This could be such a nice property with a big more care and attention. It would also have much better views if the hedges were cut back. They make the garden feel really small. The owners need to spend some of their considerable rental income on bringing it up to standard. I was offered priority booking for the same week next year at a much higher cost.

“We did have a wonderful week thank you.”

Highlights were some wonderful food both locally at the Mote and the Port Gaverne Hotel and also further afield - the set lunch at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant which was excellent value for money. The house was very spacious, well located and a wonderful base for all our walks and exploring. It was lovely and warm and well equipped on the whole. The staff we met at your office were also very helpful. The parking sharpened up our reversing skills!

Signal Post is a detached holiday house perched on the cliff at Port Isaac with magnificent views out to sea and along the coast.

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.
