“The property smelt of damp.”
I had to wash the cockery we wanted to use and leave it out of the cupboard as it was picking up the smell from the cupboard, the drawers in the back bedroom were unusable for the same reason. My chest was not good by the end of the week due to the damp. Maybe the damp needs to be looked at. We had no hot water until Tuesday as the tank was no heating up, due to confusion over the key we had to wait until Tuesday. The beds were really comfortable and we slept well.

The property
Honey Cottage is found on the corner of the beautifully-named Squeezy Belly Alley and Dolphin Street in the quaint Cornish fishing community of Port Isaac. This charming original cottage is in easy walking distance to the harbour in a great part of town which is easy to recognise as the setting of the TV show Doc Martin, in which the cottage also played a major role. It is conveniently located near the village's conveniences, has an inviting interior with exposed beams and parquet flooring, and is near Cornwall's breath-taking coastline and countryside.
Make your way into your new home-from-home and head through the lounge-diner into the fully-equipped kitchen. While the ornamental stove gives a nod to the cottage's history, there are refreshingly modern kitchen facilities you can use to cook up delicious meals that the whole family can enjoy. After you've finished feasting and toasting your holiday, you can unwind on the plush sofas, watch the smart 4k TV, switch off from the world with one of the cottage's books or ignite some friendly competition with the assortment of games at your disposal. As night falls, head up to the first floor and use the modern shower to refresh before retiring to the bedrooms; either a spacious master double bedroom with views up the pedestrianised Dolphin Street, a light double at the back of the house which overlooks the rooftops in the quiet alley or the peace of the single room. Throughout, the decor is sympathetic to the original features of this unique historic cottage but remains neutral with a subtle, coastal theme.
During the day, potter out early down the lane to the harbour to watch the few fishermen chugging out from the bay off to sea for their daily catch then make a beeline to Fee's Food or Chapel Cafe cafe for your morning coffee before dipping into the local boutique shops or hiking over the top of the hill to pick up the South West Coast Path. Foodies will enjoy Nathan Outlaw's Michelin starred restaurants while lighter lunches can be found at Fresh From the Sea or at the local pasty shop. Later, fans of Doc Martin can explore renowned filming locations including Doyden Castle, the Golden Lion Pub or Louisa’s home on Fore Street or the windswept Bodmin Moor. Within a short drive, pause at Port Quin to snorkel in the bay at high tide or explore the rockpools at low tide, fun-seekers can also book in for coasteering from here to see the cliffs from another angle! Heading south, you'll find the surfing village of Polzeath with its inviting waves and Rock, where you can hop on the foot ferry to Padstow, with its National Lobster Hatchery, plethora of small shops and play a round of mini golf at Greens, Further north, take the lane down in Boscastle to climb up the peak at the harbour and take in the glorious views from the top and be sure to stop in at Sea View Farm Shop on your way back for a hunk of homemade cake and to stop up on their local produce, taking in the stunning views out to the Rumps while there. Make cherished memories at Honey Cottage.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
