“Overall we enjoyed our stay and the views, and the location, made it an enjoyable trip.”
Having used John Bray for over 30 years and so have a little experience in holiday lettings I would make the following observations, some general, some specific to the property.
It is a pity that the interactive map to find the property doesn't have the name of the house on it! The - presumably - old name really doesn't help!
As so much, understandably, has been made about "covid cleaning", it was disappointing that some of the vacuuming was very sketchy, the kitchen work surface was poorly cleaned and the wall to floor radiator in the kitchen was leaking ( surely that had been noticed?). These points were notified to the office on the Saturday but no repair was carried out in our week there.
Whilst nice to have 2 "living rooms", the front room was so full of furniture that moving in the room was difficult. The very large wing chair in front of the TV was superfluous.
In the kitchen/dining area the front window was almost completely obscured by an enormous pile of outdoor cushions - nice in the summer but never used last week.
We thought that whilst the outdoor showers were good for coming in off the beach etc, not having a proper indoor shower in any bathroom was a negative.
In windy conditions which we had the top floor room was very noisy - ? loose roof slates??
I think the lack of "proper" wine glasses detracts from an otherwise very well equipped kitchen.
I feel that 9am is an unreasonably early time to vacate the property, one of the reasons we paid to have it cleaned. In over 30 years of using John Bray this is the first time we have paid a "security deposit" - £400 in this instance. To be told that it will take 2 weeks before it is returned I think is unacceptable.
Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your visit. We're very sorry that you had to experience these issues during your stay. Your comments have been passed on to the team at John Bray Cornish Holidays and to the owner. We hope to welcome you back to north Cornwall in the future. Regarding the £400 security deposit and the two-week refund period, this is a new policy that has been brought in since the takeover from Sykes Cottages. Furthermore the 9am checkout time we feel is necessary to provide the cleanliness and hygiene standards that we aim for, we apologise again for these not being met for your stay. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner.
