“The shower in the main bathroom was a disaster.”

Kept going hot and cold even though we followed the instructions. However we used the shower in the summer house and that was fine. Overall cleanliness was ok but could have been better but saying that, we are both very ocd. Overall a very nice house, with good amenities and well placed

“We like using Sykes cottages and plan to do many more visits.”

We find the company very easy to deal with and the staff (over the phone) very professional. We did find the cottage in an “okay” state when we arrived. And understand that it may not have been used for a week or two as there were some impressive spider webs spanning the width of the conservatory. Both my wife and I are chronic arachnophobes but I did manage to remove them (go me). Other than this minor issue we did enjoy our stay very much and think we left the place in a better place than we found it. It’s a lovely house. It’s near The Pityme Inn which is an okay pub. The food is good. However further up the road (45 mins walk) is The Mariners which is a fabulous pub. A chip shop and bakery are also just up the road. The cottage is a great base for your stay. Though one thing to note is the bins were collected on Thursday not Friday as the inventory states. Which is why the bins were full when we arrived and also why we left them full (caught us out too). We did message Sykes about it as we obviously want to use them again and don’t want to get into trouble. On the whole don’t let “the spider web” part of our stay put you off going. It is a stunning property with a self contained one bed house in the garden. The beds are comfy too. Over all once the eight legged horrors were removed (comes with old houses sadly) we enjoyed a very pleasant stay.

“Boskewys is delightful, all utensils you could wish for in the kitchen.”

Personally I found the extremely comfortable large sofa very difficult to get up from, having said that, that was my problem having had a hip replacement in May!! The garden and summerhouse was a great bonus, although access wasn't great as whichever set of steps you accessed by was hindered by brambly thorny rogue overhangs. I'll bring my secateurs next time

“Boskewys was an absolutely wonderful home away from home for a week for our party of 6.”

The house is large and easily accommodated all of us, and we especially loved the huge conservatory. It is equipped with every possible thing you could want in a house in Cornwall from a blender and a mixer to bodyboards in the garage, and it was very comfortable, clean and in a brilliant location. One thing to be aware of is that many of the ceilings are quite low, but that comes with it being a period property. The only slightly disappointing thing about our stay was that there was a planned maintenance of the power cables on the property during our stay - not the fault of the owner of course, but we were not informed of this beforehand, and only discovered it when all the lights went out, which meant we had to adjust our plans for cooking and activities for that day. Other than that small hiccup it was a wonderful place and I highly recommend it!

“Wonderful cottage.”

Was large enough for my family of 6(3 teenagers). Kitchen full of everything you could ask for and 2 fridges were an added bonus. The wonderful added bonus was the shower aid seat. This was because 2 weeks before our holiday my daughter had a nasty break to her arm. Knowing there was no bath in the cottage we did worry a little but upon arriving we found seat so she could shower (which was large as well) and wash her hair without getting her cast wet. The summer house was wonderful for the teenagers to hide away when they needed to. The local butchers is a must for bacon and sausage, both to die for. If you want certain bakery items then you need to rise before 8am to pickup as they sell out very fast. The only downside is not having a list of places to go to find items, Google maps really help with this (supermarkets etc). We arrived very late and all shops local were closed so supplies had to wait till morning. Basic supplies would have been nice if offered as this cottage is in the middle of nearly no--where. We all rate this cottage as fantastic. And didn't want to end our holiday!

The property

Boskewys is a historic three-bedroom cottage located in St Minver, Cornwall, close to the charming coastal community of Rock. Boskewys is an excellent base for a family or group of friends wishing to explore this beautiful area of Cornwall. It has an enclosed garden with a summer house, a mid-sized garage parking space, a well-equipped kitchen, and is near to the shore and local services. After unloading your belongings, enter your new home away from home, and curl up in the squashy sofa in the comfortable sitting area with a book or log into your own Netflix account on the large Smart TV to catch up on all your favourite shows or a movie after a long day. Allow your significant other to prepare a delicious dish in the well-equipped, traditional-style kitchen before enjoying a meal and a glass of wine in the light-drenched conservatory while taking in the lovely views of the elevated, lawned yard. You can use the outside furniture to lounge in the garden or if the rainshowers come, children can dive into the summerhouse to watch a DVD and have some personal space. Here, you'll also find a useful shower room, the washing machine and a small capacity tumble dryer. Once inside the cottage again, retire to the first floor to refresh in the modern shower room before choosing a super-king-size, twin, or bunk bedroom to relax in. Start your day's activities at Rock Beach in the morning for a wander along the sands, taking in the stunning views of the Camel Estuary. Here, you can saunter around to Brea Hill and Daymer Bay at low tide or simple build sandcastles and paddle in the water. For the action-seekers of your group, engage in a variety of watersports at Camel Ski School such as paddleboarding and water skiing while Rock Sailing School offers sailing courses in the season. Around the coastline-corner (a longer walk around the coast path or 5 minutes by car), the surfing beach of Polzeath gives great opportunity to jump into the waves or stop for some delectable meal at Surfside, the Waterfront, the Cracking Crab restaurants or Oystercatcher pub. From the beach you can also hike to Pentire Point, perfect for the nature aficionados among you and having far-reaching views of the stunning coastline. No doubt that the extra shower in the garage at Boskewys is a useful spot for refreshing after a day on the beach! For a day in a harbour town, take the foot-ferry across from Rock beach to visit Padstow where you can shop in the local stores, learn about the town at the Padstow Museum, visit the National Lobster Hatchery or book onto Padstow Sealife Safaris - Wildlife Watching Boat Trips for a unique view of the estuary. Further north from Boskewys, take your car to find Tintagel to explore the National Trust site of Glebe Cliff, Tintagel Castle, St. Nectan's Waterfall, and a wide variety of pubs, shops, and restaurants. Take your loved ones to Cornwall to take in all the sights of the north coast.
