Secret Coves in North Cornwall

North Cornwall boasts miles of beautiful coastline, beaches and clifftop views that are undoubtedly the best in the UK. Amongst these beaches, there are secret hidden coves that many may not know about. Read about our favourite secret coves below and discover them for yourselves this summer.

Baby Bay, Polzeath

Officially known as Pentireglaze Haven, ‘Baby Bay’ to locals, this charming bay is a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of Polzeath beach. Only accessed when the tide is low, the bay offers a beautiful setting in which to spend the afternoon or evening taking in the views of the Cornish coastline and out to sea.

Baby Bay also used to be the place to get the most amazing tacos. The Taco Boys used to set up their converted horsebox food truck and serve up food so good even Gordon Ramsay shouted about it! Although they’re gone, there’s plenty of great restaurants in Polzeath to check out still.

Bossiney Cove Beach, Tintagel

A North Cornish hidden gem, this small beach is located just down the road from Tintagel Castle, a short 20 minute drive from Port Isaac and 30 minutes from Rock, Daymer Bay and Polzeath. Enjoy a stroll with the sand between your toes and exploring the wonderful cave on the right of the beach, which leads to a giant cavern. The cove is dog friendly all year round, so be sure to bring your four-legged friend along too! The beach is accessed via a footpath and steep steps so not suitable for wheelchairs or push chairs.

Port Quin, Port Isaac

Just around the corner from Port Isaac, you will find the sheltered bay of Port Quin. Once a bustling fishing port, it is now a peaceful spot with wonderful coastline and cliffs surrounding it. Enjoy a stroll to the cove from Port Isaac along the coastal paths and admire the lovely sea views whilst relaxing in the sun and playing in the rockpools. Maybe even try your hand at a paddleboard or SUP in the calm waters…

Lundy Bay, Polzeath

A wide bay, with plenty of sand at low tide, Lundy Bay is a beautiful hidden gem that makes for a great outing on a sunny day. Just a short drive from Polzeath beach, park in the small car park and then set off down the sloping footpath for about 10-15 minutes before climbing over some rocks and finally reaching the bay. Dogs are welcome all year round, and will love everything about it!
